I stayed in a hotel well up the road that leads to the Glacier so it was a nice hike from there. Although some people do it, I would not consider it safe to walk up the road from Ushuaia because of the nature of the road and lack of pavement for pedestrians. If you're in central Ushuaia, do get a taxi to a spot close to the Glacier (there's an actual tax rank, so you can get a taxi back.) I am not an experienced mountaineer and it was a glorious and not to difficult hike!…

Very beautiful views, I haven't been tp the gym in month but survived! Going up can be steep at some points but not too bad. Coming down is a breeze. Took up 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to the top (including stopping for pics)

From downtown Ushuaia, you can get a nice view of Glacier Martial atop the Martial Mountains a few kilometers north of the city. But don't settle for that. Get up close and personal with this glacier or, for the less adventurous, at least get up a little closer. Some opt to take the main hiking trail starting near La Cabana Casa de Te and walk right up to the glacier. (You can take a taxi up to the tea house to start your hike.) I'm told you can take a 15-minute chairlift ride to the glacier from the ski resort up there, but I don't know if this is seasonal. Being on a cruise ship shore excursion, we had limited time and settled for driving up paved but winding Luis Fernando Martial street (named for the leader of an 1883 French scientific expedition to the area) and stopping at Hotel del Glacier, where we had good close views of the glacier from the hotel parking lot and, turning back toward Ushuaia, nice views of the city and the Beagle Channel (see my review, "Atlantic-Pacific link"). We could clearly see our ship docked at the pier. By the way, Ushuaia gets most of its fresh water from this glacier!…

We were lucky not to believe the location of the glacier from the TripAdvisor map. You certainly couldn’t walk here but once you know this is the case then a trip to it is more than worthwhile. It was a really nice day when we were here and it is hard to imagine, until you see it, how a glacier can exist here. We were given lots of explanations but just enjoy the sight, it may be as we continue to destroy our planet that this is a something people will tell others that they saw, before it disappeared.…

Was staying in Ushuaia and our hotel receptionist recommended this to us, we caught a taxi early up to where the chairlift started and began our walk. The first part to the top of the walk was a bit steep and a little boring but after that it became really beautiful and was a relatively easy walk. It took us about an hour and a half to reach the glacier and the views both up and down were lovely. Recommend starting early as we were the first people to get to the glacier and it was great being there on our own. Coming back down there were a lot more people…
