This is an amazing place. I took the bus from San Juan here and took a night trip, because I was told the there would be a great moon. It was ok, but not exactly what I expected. So the next day, I took a day trip which was much better. It was difficult to get great photos at night,... More

We were a little hesitant on how our experience would turn out, but we were delighted with what we saw. Accessing private land, the walk through the valley is fascinating for its geology and history. The petrified trees and dinosaur bones are spectacular. The walk is not the easiest, so people without a reasonable level of fitness should not consider... More

You can only access this piece of land with a tour as the petrified trees and dinosaur bones are on private land, half-way between Calafate and Chalten. If you plan on staying in both Calafate and Chalten try to use the tour as transfer, as you can start the tour in Calafate but then being taken to Chalten, and vice... More

Interesting walk on private land with a friendly, informative guide. We saw plenty of fossilised trees, dinosaur bones and "Star Wars- type" unusual rock formations, in an impressive setting. We used this trip as a transfer between El Calafate and El Chalten, which worked well. We booked it with Walk Patagonia.

This is the second time I visit La Leona Petrified Forest. I actually loved doing this for the second time rather than doing the mini trekking on Perito Moreno for the second time. The landscape in the petrified forest (semi-desert), with its rock and sediment formations, fossils, and petrified tree trunks is fascinating. The two-hour hike is wonderful (not recommended... I went to the "Bosque Petrificado" about a week ago for some trekking. The place is not only a desertic area, but also a paleontological site where you can find dinosaurs' remains and different types of fossiles. Be sure to carry enough water, food, light clothes as well as sun block and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.... More

While Kayaking the Rio La Leona, we stopped halfway for a stroll into these badlands, the 'petrified forest'. It was raining and extremely slippery so we could only walk between the hills through the mud. Besides the unique flora it is quite an interesting experience and sight to walk through. Reminded me a bit of the 'hoodoos' I have seen... More

I drove into the area. You turn off the main road opposite the La Leona Paradores and station, and drive about 10km on an unmade road that sometimes is easy to drive and sometimes fully of rocks that require care to avoid damaging tyres. There is also a hazardous looking bridge to cross before you get to the area where... More
