Actually there are more than 7 Lakes which don't even include the great granddaddy of them all -Nahuel Huapi - which covers at least 60 miles from Bariloche to Villa Langostura. And arguably the mountains and rock formations are even more dramatic than the lakes. Even though route 40 is more sinuoso (winding) than 237 to San Martin it is... More

Stop frequently and appreciate the varied views and environments. The parking areas are easy to access.

We loved the drive. Each lake is different and very beautiful. Try to avoid weekends in the summer as the road is crowed and the drive can be slow.

Amazing road, with view on many lakes ans forests. I travelled by bus, which gave me the chance to enjoy the landscape but obviously the best option would be to have your own car or motorcycle and stop wherever you want to.

Did the route of the seven lakes with our family in December of 2016. The views are amazing and there are so many places you'll want to stop to take pictures it's almost gets tiring and tedious. The drive took about 7 hours from San Martin to Bariloche so I would plan for a full day. We chose to do... More

Took minivan tour out of Bariloche for 1000pesos to San Martin. Got off in San Martin and spent 2 days there. The van stopped in Villa Agostura and all the lakes. Ofcourse it is beautiful but after a while all the lakes scenery is similar. I personally prefer the high vistas.

It goes through 11 lakes, not only seven, and even though it is only 225 km long, it takes a whole day because you will want to stop and take photos and enjoy the view all the time!

Driving the road of the seven lakes is wonderful! Seems like every few kilometers is another lake. Each more beautiful than the last. Definitely take the turn off and drive in to see lago Hermosa. Bring beach towels and hang out a while. Water is super clear. There is a small restaurant with patio overlooking the water. Wonderful drive!!

An absolutely gorgeous scenic drive. However, to enjoy it without stress, pull over often to let the universally impatient local drivers by.
