Make this a top in Salta. This is an eclectic but really interesting collection of ethnographical pieces, old and more recent which aims to put indigenous culture in context. The guide is enthusiastic and knowledgable

This is a gem that is off the beaten track. The guide, Diego, was passionate about his work and about the anthropologist who organized the museum. Wonderful depiction of Indigineous cultures in the Andean region. Just a fun visit

If you are interested in indigenous art and culture, don't miss this special collection of archaeological finds that are juxtaposed with contemporary and recent work, which illustrates how these traditions have evolved and continue. We arrived here a bit late in the afternoon and weren't sure how to enter. This is a private collection so I suppose it doesn't work like a public museum: we had to ring the doorbell. The door was opened for us and a very...More

This "museum" may have had great treasures, but it was not organized or presented in a way that educated the viewer unless he or she read Spanish fluently. The owner or person overseeing the collection pointed out only the most basic points, e.g., beautiful weavings...More

A small museum that packs so much into the small space. The guide was very enthusiastic in explaining the exhibits, but then left us to look round ourselves. Gives a good overall picture of the history of South America - textiles, pottery, masks, musical instruments,...More

Inexplicably this small private museum is not on any of the maps of the city I was given. It's a bit out of the way, but only a 10 minute walk or so from the main plaza. It's truly amazing. Diego, the guide, is full...More

Many towns have museums devoted to local history and archealogy, including Salta. This museum specialises in Andean art with an emphasis on the melding of Andean and Spanish styles. Diego is an enthusiastic host, and many displays have English and French notes.
