This free museum, open 900 to 1900 Tuesday to Sunday is affiliated with the university and is an excellent collection, well displayed of pre-Columbian artefacts. Spatious and well lit it also has an open terrace on the roof with views around Salta. Well worth the visit. Combine witih a visit to the Guemes statue and is also near the start of the walk up to San Bernardo Hill.

Amazing collection of pottery. They were doing some construction so I don’t think we saw the whole collection, but what we saw was interesting. We didn’t see any mummies. The staff tried their best to answer our questions even though we don’t speak Spanish. Free!

Interesting but needs some tourist orientated work

While not displeased with our visit there was really just one large room and not any why near the information we expected to see. Does a reasonable hod on showing providing info on NW Argentina culture and ethnic groups. No English or guide available during our visit.

The mummies were amazing. We like the upstairs section with the descriptions of the various volcanoes.

It is a very complete museum that has an innumerable number of pre-Inca pieces. It also has a very wide schedule from 8 to 7 pm and has guided tours in Spanish and English.

Are you kidding me?

I am not sure if they were working on the exibition and part was closed or it really was that small.
It was pretty much just one room with few pieces in. Only text in Spanish, so we were not even sure what we looked at - but thats ok.

We were lucky that we lived close by and that entrance was free, so we didn't fell we wasted time/money.

I can definitely not recommend going here.

This museum is closed for renovations. It is not indicated on their website. It was disappointing after the walk up there but I felt sorrier for the people behind me who pushed bikes the whole way up .
