A very original experience
Jan 2020
We had a great time learning the first approach to tango. Very informal setting. Like in VERY informal. I definitly would not be eating there, but the dancefloor and the other people were very nice. And there was a nice combination of beginners and some who knew more, so it was actually possible to learn something. It made me want to learn more about the tango. Be prepared to change partners a lot.
The sound system collapsed, but by magic they fond a couple that played guitar and sang - and that was a wonderful experience. What a voice, and what a mood!

Cool vibe

Pretty cool place, really eclectic decor and art, cheap wine and plenty of space for dancing - lots of beginners and lessons going on when we were there which was entertaining and felt pretty inclusive, would recommend a visit!

Modern tango
Dec 2019
On weekday's night the club was relatively empty what also means there was a lot of space to dance. Tango music was rather modern what was not proper for us but then it changed and it was okay. There was a small performance of small band was a welcomed break. Worth to try!

Not your average show but rather you get try and dance yourself. They have instructor on premises that will show you a step or two. They also have an experience tango dancers that will do a show every hour. Overall a cool experience, they also serve alcohol.

Fantastic atmosphere
Oct 2019
We visited La Catedral on the recommendation of our guide in BA. It was the first milonga we went to on our own and felt immediately comfortable. It was relaxed, quirky, with so much atmosphere and we felt comfortable enough to pop our dance shoes on and get up and dance amongst the locals. We were treated to live music twice that evening, with a guitar and bandoneon and then 5 guitarists. A wonderful experience we are still talking about. The floor had a few catches in it from the joins between the boards, so be a bit careful walking in stiletto heels but the dancefloor was a good size. The toilets were the downside here but that seems to be a theme through all the milongas we went to. Worth keeping a little tissue and maybe hand gel in your bag for all these places but it didn't spoil the overall experience. We'd love to go back again one day.

Authentic tango experience in BA
Apr 2019
Tango or milonga in La Catedral Club in Buenos Aires is a unique experience. The place is unassuming but has a bohemian and romantic vibe to it. We saw amateurs practicising the dance while we enjoyed the pizza and wine from the bar. Great place to go with your patner or close friends to get the local charm.

Great place to watch/learn Tango in Buenos Aires
Jul 2018 • Couples
While living in Buenos Aires, we went to La Catedral a few times. It's a great place to check out in BA to watch some tango, or take group/private lessons (we did both). We also took friends visiting us here, and they loved it. It's a funky old school gothic-ish old church. The drinks are cheap, and you get an opportunity to watch some good tango. I wouldn't say the main hall is a club atmosphere....It's more of a laid-back low-key space to watch some awesome tango, or people trying to learn tango. There are other rooms that are available to intermediate / advanced groups, and they are pretty lively and fun to watch. Highly recommend, even if just to watch and have a drink. Also -- make sure you call them to confirm hours/classes/cover charges for that day, as they change frequently.

Cool club and dancing
Jan 2019 • Couples
We went to La Catedral on the recommendation of a guide. It was really a great tip as this place is very cool. It costs 100 pesos to get in and this is dirt cheap for even just sitting in the bar/dance floor and watching the tango dancers and experiencing the vibe. Definitely a late night (for non Argentinians!!) venue. Try and pick a cooler night as it was very hot inside although it did add to the atmosphere.

Tango class and club watching
Dec 2018 • Couples
Went on a Friday night for the 10:30pm Tango class then stayed after for the band / dance floor. The “class” (more like an informal open workshop) was in a side room, out of the main club floor, and was surprisingly informative; was pretty basic and totally in Spanish, but my husband and I got the gist and after an hour and a half at least weren’t stepping on each other’s feet anymore. There was about a dozen people of all ages, both solos and couples. The class ended around 11:45pm and we grabbed a table in the main ‘club’ room (the large warehouse space), which was mostly gringos that early on.

To the other reviews, yes the bar wasn’t anything special- only a few warm beers on offer and pretty lax service. But the venue itself and the live band was great- good rotation of musicians, and a few tango performances thrown in (I’m sure to entertain us early-bird tourists). By the time we left around 1:30am the locals were just starting to trickle in, so I can’t give a true report on the Tango-watching experience. Overall, considering our entry was approx $6 AUD it was well worth the money for the experience.
