To build the widest avenue in the world, many beautiful homes and structures were torn down. How unfortunate! We were told by our guide that the French refused to abandon their embassy. And so today, this is where the avenue ends. We crossed it several times during our 3 day visit to Buenos Aires. It’s difficult to avoid as a tourist. One can see the obelisk here, one of the city’s landmarks.

Just massive. Don't know that I've ever taken the time to think about a street for any length of this but this one is in a class of its own. They say it's the widest in the world and they may be right. Never seen the likes of it.

At the very center of the city, next to the theaters. Great balcony view on a huge loft, soberly decorated. Fine breakfast served properly on the room. Front desk, very kind, also same with all other employees we treat.

It is an interesting street that is pretty hard to avoid. Lots of action on both sides of the street.

The world's widest road .... noise, noise and more noise! The traffic never ceases and there is a wide bus lane down its centre. Worth a view, but then get away and get some peace!

The avenue itself is not interesting because it’s only about traffic and people, but on both sides there are hotels, shops, very noisy.

It would be possible to visit BA and never see the Av 9th July (Julio) But you would have missed the Widest Avenue in the world. Consider you have nearly 2 car lanes of width adjacent to the buildings on each side, then next to the sidewalks you have 3 lanes North, 3 lanes South on the other side of the Avenue. Next you have 5 regular traffic lanes north, 5 South. In between those 2 major 5’s you have another neat aspect 2 lanes north and 2 South devoted solely to the Busses, which stop at lengthy train platform types of stops. Let’s also include the large wide green spaces that run the length of the Avenue, sides and Center. I realise they no doubt had space to plan but consider that the City Planners were forward looking enough to PLAN. Two points of note on the Avenue, first the High Obelisco.. lots of Selfies taken there and also the lighted image covering both sides of a building of Evita Peron.

We walked up and down Avenida 9 de Julio many times during our recent one week stay in Buenos Aires. July 9 Avenue ( Spanish: Avenida 9 de Julio) is a major thoroughfare in the city centre of Buenos Aires. Its name honors Argentina's Independence Day, July 9, 1816
Along its 3 km, there are several major attractions. Here are just some of the highlights, heading north to south: The Majestic Embassy, The stunning Teatro Colón, The iconic Obelisk, The chalet on the skyline, The Japanese crane, One of the seven wonders, Don Quixote tilts at the tower blocks, The dismembered fountain.

It is a huge street with many lines for traffic, there are many hotels, restaurants, bars, shops on it, however the buildings are not particularly attractive. Traffic is always very intense. At the intersection with Avenida Corrientes there is the famous Obelisk, the city most famous landmark.
