At first glance the last remaining entry to the old town of Koper isn't truly impressive. But it's where you step from the new to the old. Stop in the square and look. Outside the wall the roads are made and the buildings are modern; inside there are cobblestones, narrow alleys and old buildings.

We had lunch at the bar next to the old gate and sat a while watching the people walk past. There is an ornate old fountain in the square which is worth a look. The most exciting event for us was seeing a cat catch a pigeon, but I can't guarantee that happening while you are there. Still, its a... More

Modelled after an ancient triumphal arch, the gate was built by Koper podesta Sebastian Contarini. Today, the Muda Gate remains the only preserved city gate out of the former twelve. The Renaissance style and heraldic decorations, among which the sun is the most prominent, symbolize the city’s coat of armours.

In the old town in Koper stands the Muda Gate it's one gate remaining from the city wall built around the 16 century also through the gate you see a fountain that looks like the Rialto Bridge in Venice.

This is one of the gates which remained with the original city wall. When you pass the gate you come to another world - middles age.

The Muda Gate is a Renaissance city gate in Koper built in the 16th century. If in the area, worth to see with the fountain.

It is a nice part of the town with a good summary of its history. Hard to miss if you walk around the shore front towards the new shopping district. It's also close to a fountain and cafes, nice and relaxing.

Nice old medieval gate and entrance into the old town. The is a very pleasant square with bars, a fountain and shops immediately behind the gate.

Built in 1516, Muda Gate is the last of a dozen such entrances to the oldtown to remain standing. Old Koper (at end of 1500s) was once a fortified island, and people entering on the toll bridge had to pay to gain access. Check out the painting in the Praetor's Palace for a large painting showing how it was.
