We arrived to the castle about an hour because it closed. So we got to see the sunset from the balcony and it was gorgeous. The castle is really beautiful and magical. One of the more beautiful ones we’ve seen on the trip. It also...More

Just walking in you can feel this may be something special. The gardens create a calm even with a flow of people. Absolutely wonderful and probably some of why you are in Tomar.

Casrelo de Tomar or Templar Castle (Order of Christ) is a must see in Tomar. It has many carvings which are very interesting. Also there is a wonderful church in the castle.

Great views of Tomar from here. Beautiful building. Wish there was a guided tour available or more information. We arrived late and had a very short visit.

This is a fabulous place. Initially a bit, "Oh, another cloister", but stick with it and there are many fabulous bits. Allow plenty of time to explore.

We caught the train to Tomar and walked up to the castle through the older part of town. The castle gets more impressive the closer you get, the size makes you admire the people who built this site. The cloisters, the chapel, the cells and...More

It's an amazing place. It's wonderful to look up at from the village and once inside, it continues to amaze. The Templar chapel in particular is incredible.

This was interesting but not particularly a must see. Steep climb up - you may want to think this one over before you climb

When you first set eyes on the Castelo de Tomar it immediately becomes evident as to why it is designated a Unesco world heritage site. The structure is incredibly detailed in it's carvings, inside and out. It's been restored impeccably. Should certainly not be missed...More

We were taken there by "Tuk Lovers", based in Tomar main square, who provided vast amounts of information about the history and architecture.

Visiting the castle there is a small cafe on the left as you approach the top. I would recommend you park close to that and hide everything in the boot. The other person has made a good suggestion too. The town has lots of... More
