Better than Jeronimo!

The artwork, stonework and history are absolutely stunning! I could have spent all day just finding new, amazing spots. Didn't want to leave. Just breathtaking!

Note that there is a lift to the castle, but walking will get you more respect to what you will see upstairs: even delivery of food is hard to imagine, yet monks built a magnificent palace so high above the town. They have a small little caffee there but get good breakfast because it is a shame to pop in... More

Visited this place as part of a Templar day trip from Lisbon. This is a beautiful place with amazing architecture and also a very important part of the Knights Templar history. A must visit.

We travelled out of the way to see the castle and it was absolutely worth it. We spent 4 hours exploring the interior and exterior of the castle. The castle is massive. It really gives you a good feel for what life would be like living in a castle because you have access to almost every part of the castle.... More

My husband and I went here recently and it's pretty amazing. We spent quite a bit of time looking around at the structure and thinking about what it must have been like back in the day. Nice place to visit.

We vistited in the late afternoon at Saturday. It is a lovely place. I've visited many castles, but this looks as the knights and monks just left yesterday. Also a beautiful view. It was the fee more than worth.

If you are cruising from Lisbon to Porto you really need to get off the highway and see Tomar both the castle and convent are amazing. The town looked quite nice for an overnight too. Spent at least two hours touring the castle which made me quite late for arrival to Porto but was well worth it.

We visited an amazing castle in which the Templars became the Order of Christ. It was a way station for pilgrims headed for the Holy land. We learned so much about this order and its functions.

Easy parking with a cafe close by. What an interesting castle. So much to see. Allow plenty of time. I entered on the right hand side of car park to the South Portal. The views of the country side are beautiful. There are an array of cloisters. The Charolais was impressive with so many colours and frescos. The paintings of... More
