Fun To Visit, But A Large Section Closed For Renovation Work.
Nov 2020
Sadly a lot of the castle was off limits due to renovation work being carried out. However, it was still a very pleasant visit. There are cobbled streets with old terraced cottages, an old prison (no entry), the walls to climb and explore and a host of very friendly cats.

works in September 2020

There were a lot of works in September 2020, so you can’t explore half of it. I think after the works it will be nice. I like a lot the houses in the walls.

Beautiful Castle with a quaint town next to it.
Mar 2020
what a beautiful Castle with a quaint and very clean town next to it, worth visiting and maybe staying a night, the visit to the castle is easy after you climb the steep street, but all in all a place to visit.

Another beautiful castle with beautiful views.
Sep 2019
The castles of Portugal are amazing even if they all require a walk up a steep hill. Castelo de Vide. The surrounding town is also very beautiful. The Church of Santa Maria.

Need repair
Sep 2019
This castle is similar to many antiquities in Portugal in that it is situated on top of a tall hill that has a steep cobblestones approach that will challenge any timid driver. Best to walk and enjoy the sights of the little streets.
The castle structure itself is in good repair but needs a focus and purpose to draw tourists to it. Right now, there is an exhibit area that is closed to the public so the only interesting thing to do is climb to the top tower for a view of the town.

Historical and great place to visit. Nice view and well kept place. May understand how was important the geography to defence matters.

Living castle
Jan 2019 • Couples
Great to walk amidst a castle which happens to be a village lived in today. The castle itself is inspiring and interesting but lacks any historical context and in need of a lot of TLC.

Fascinating walled town

Well worth a visit - steep narrow cobbled streets, castle with an active village within its walls, whitewashed buildings, interesting churches, Jewish community. Lots of keenly priced restaurants cafes and bars, Comfortable hotels. Good base to explore surrounding area.

Pitstop on a traveling bus tour through Portugal - not the most exciting stop
May 2018 • Couples
One observation about Portugal - it seems like there are lots of castles on the top of every town. After a while, it gets redundant and this one can certainly be skipped. Yes, nice views, but once again it was a pitstop for lunch and to walk around a quiet village.
