The Jewel of Worcester, Western Cape; Succulent master piece! I have visited this attraction every year and it never fails to mesmerize me. Nature is so spectacular. The position of this Garden is settle between the mountains and consists of mostly Karoo succulents; this part of the Cape is extremely hot between September and February each year so the best viewing... We never knew this existed. Breakfast was a buffet type, fruit, yogurt, cereal. Choice of eggs, bacon, sliced tomatoes, boervorst, toast and jam. Plates were not hot and the food dishes were not kept warm, so it was a little expensive per person, but the service and view made it worthwhile as well as bottomless good filter coffee. Will definitely go... The desert garden is well looked after and set out on a hillside. It is very peaceful and good to wander around on a dry day. There are trails that can be followed which give you good views of the gardens and surrounding area. There is a small nursery area. Our only disappointment was that the restaurant has been shut... The Botanic Gardens were larger than expected with many species of plants I have never seen before including a nursery where you are able to purchase items. The place was so dry yet these plants survive! I would definetaly visit again.

We loved this garden. It is not a typical botanic garden, but beautifully designed with lots of walks through the native plants. It was springtime, and there were lots of flowers. Our only disappointment was that many plants are not labelled, but we met the curator and they are working on it. I wish we had time to take the... More

I don't know whether it was because we had already spent time in the desert prior to coming to the garden but it was very disappointing. The best feature was the beautiful, brightly colored vyggies blooming in early October. It was a Sunday but the park was almost deserted. It wasn't very big, the majority is within the circular drive.

Took the 1.5 hour drive through dazzling scenery from Cape Town to Worcester to visit these gardens. The turn off was not well marked going from Cape Town but, after missing it and turning around, found it easily approaching the other way. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed because new management was taking over. We had the place to ourselves! Wandered... More

Visited restaurant for a light lunch. We were seated outside on our request. My wife asked the waitress if she could maybe get a cushion to put on the wooden chair, waitress response was that they don't have cushions but she will see what she can do. Minutes later she returned with a leather chair, well done. Food was also... More

This is an interesting stop to experience the native shrubbery and other plants. It is clean and well kept and well worth the visit if you like botany.

The entrance to the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden is in Roux Street on the northern edge of Worcester. Children get excited as soon as they see the Nama mat houses dotted around a rocky hill. The garden is a remarkable representation of the different biomes within the Karoo. 11 of the reserve’s 154 hectares is cultivated into miniature arid... More
