This 75 km historic road was completed in 1883. Rivers generally flow in deep gorges on their way from the mountains to the sea, therefore there are seven passes along the way, hence the name of the route. These are the passes crossing the Swart-, Kaaimans- and Silver-, Touw-, Hoogekraal- and Karatara rivers, the Homtini gorge and the Phantom pass. Knysna Phantom Pass to Saasveld George | 75 km | +/- 1 Hour, 30 min driving time

I have cycled this route before. Today we took a leisurely drive. The scenery and the passes are gorgeous. A welcome change from the high speed N2.

A great drive from George to knysna on the back roads. We traveled in a high clearance vehicle but not 4x4. Traveling was good and the vehicle gave us peace of mind in all of the gravel sections, I can't say the same for the sedan drivers that we encountered. There are beautiful spots for picnics especially around the bridges... More

We decided to drive this route starting in George and drove onto the finish at Brenton- on-Sea The start of the route tended to be more green and as we moved East the country side became drier due to lower rainfall in that area. Still it was a route worth doing. The highlight was the forest walk, starting at the... More

Worth the time and effort if you are training for a big event like the Cape Epic that requires distance and climbing. Road not always good for normal cars. But perfect on a MTB! ;)

When you look at the pamphlets and videos of thsi drive it seems too good to be true. The drive itself is difficult and long and to get to the views advertised you need to hike as these are not visible from the road. The trip is still beautful in a natural scenery typical of the Cape coastal drive -... More

We travelled these passes by road and on foot. Engrossing. Countless varieties of tree jostling shoulder to shouder with sweet smelling wattle, black eyed susie and so much more. A festival of leaves, petals and exuberant growth. We couldn't get enough.

This is a stunning drive and day out in nature, well worth doing. Some of the roads are gravel - it is a very scenic route
