After many years of driving past Maynardville Open Air Theatre, I decided that this would be the perfect time if any to experience it. It would hopefully be the perfect way to celebrate Valentines Eve with my little family....Mom, Dad and 2 daughters (12 and 7 yrs old). We were all pleasantly surprised and absolutely enthralled by the whole experience... More

Early each year during February, outdoor Shakespear plays are presented. A definate must visit, even though in high summer take a jersey and a blanket as it gets cold later the evening. Going most years for the past 15 years, always a good evening out.

Had a wonderful picnic with friends and show was excellent. A very different experience. Could maybe just have a few more coffee stations during interval, because we had to wait a long time to get something to drink. Only one vendor. Will definitely go again. Take blankets .... it can get chilly.

We went last year to see Midsummer's Night Dream. The outdoor setting for this was perfect. The chairs did get a bit uncomfortable so remember to take cushions and a blanket. The weather is unpredictable and the evenings can get a bit chilly in the garden. The gardens are lovely and the setting is great for a romantic night out.... More

Just spent a magical Valentines evening at Maynardville Theatre along with 700 others. Shakespeare in the park is well worth a visit. Go early and enjoy a picnic by the lake along with everyone else. This also means you get parked easier on the road alongside. Take cushions for the seats and enjoy.

What a wonderful evening! We started off having a picnic next to the lily covered lake which abounded in wild fowl, Egyptian Geese, Egrets, Guinea fowl & Sacred Ibis. Then we went into the theatre area which is open to the stars, surrounded by deep foliage with the stage seemingly surrounded by an enchanted forest of large trees! The 2... More

Magical setting in beautiful gardens, this outdoor theatre has been a fixture for over 50 years, so many actors who started here have made names for themselves in Stratford-on-Avon and Hollywood. Great productions. Bring a picnic and sit by the lake pre-performance. Dress warmly or bring a rug - gets cold even in summer.

I had often visited Maynardville as a youngster and this was the first time I had returned in years. It is an outing worth doing while in Cape Town if it is the right time and weather is good. Ensure you are warm enough - bring blankets and cushions - pre-booked chairs are provided. Shakespeare and ballet are frequently performed... More

I have been going to the Maynardville Open Air Theater for years. Their Shakespeare Productions are an annual event that we try to never miss. Not only is the quality of performances excellent with tried and tested content but the experience of being outside for theater really works on one of Cape Town's balmy Summer evenings. But be warned it... More
