Alexander Bar, Cafe & Theatre is Cape Town's buzzing conversation bar. It's filled with old-world charm and innovative touches like old fashioned phones which you can use to order a drink or to chat up people at other tables. Upstairs there's a 40 seater theatre which is Cape Town's busiest stage with more than 10 performances per week - check the website and get discounted ticket prices if you book online. The kitchen serves great light meals til midnight and keep an eye out for fabulous daily specials.

At the lively and quite urban downstairs bar you wouldn't expect a fully fledged little theatre upstairs. We attended the all black - writer, director, actor - performance The Champion and were stunned by the dramatic story of a sad life ending in violence and...More

Loved the interior of this restaurant - very antique theme. On the evening we went, they had a Quiz night going on - which was fun! They also have a theatre upstairs, so you can have a drink on the first floor while waiting for...More

We popped in for a drink at 7.30pm on a Saturday evening before heading off to a party around the corner at 8pm. We were early it seems, there was just one other patron. We sat at the bar and had a couple of beers....More

This place is so underrated, yet it has so much to offer! Quality entertainment, good food, great customer service. It's great to walk into a place and the staff know what your favourite drink is and they remember your name. Perfect spot for 'date night'...More

This was my first visit to the Alesander Theater and I'll definitely go back. We had a great meal and brilliant show. We loved the cosy atmosphere and bussle of the place.

I was lucky enough to visit Alexander Bar, Cafe & Theatre three times in short succession: twice to see a show in the theatre and once to participate in their pub quiz. The theatre was really 'something else': it's tiny, yes, but I haven't experienced...More

The visit was fine but I had read great things, and about how kinda kooky the bar was etc, so I was a little disappointed once we actually got there. The drinks were ok, service was ok. Nothing has really stuck with me and I...More

Perfect for a theatre and dinner evening. But tonight was just a quick pop in for a night cap after we saw a bother show at City Hall. Bar and kitchen was still open after 11pm. Stunning little chill out venue. Love it here.More

Thank you! One of the reasons we've insisted since we opened on keeping the kitchen open til midnight is exactly to cater for people coming after shows at other venues, following our own personal disappointment trying to scare up a sit-down meal after 22h30 in...More

An ancient building houses a comfortable cafe, a great bar in its centre, an intimate theatre upstairs, and an open area from which to watch the passers-by in comfort. It has a warm feeling about it, and seems always full of chatter. The food is...More

Inclusive queer bar with a theater upstairs. They also have an awesome menu, the aubergine dish is especially yum. It has a sit down vibe with quirky, comfortable chairs. Every table has an antique phone where you can call the other tables!

Thank you for your kind words. For the record we don't especially label ourselves as a queer/gay bar, we are home to all sorts, even the terminally straight :-) Glad you like the parmigiana! Thanks. Nicholas.
