Uthando (Love) South Africa is an internationally award winning, unique and innovative Non Profit and Fair Trade certified company. The aim of Uthando is to raise funds and other forms of assistance for community development projects in South Africa. Uthando runs tours as daily scheduled tours AND tailormade private tours (for groups of any size). We take visitors into the townships (impoverished areas created during Apartheid on the outskirts of Cape Town) to visit incredible community development projects. We shine a light on the remarkable people and projects that are helping to build the new South Africa at grass roots level. On our tours we tell the remarkable story and history of South Africa and its brutal past, we discuss pertinent issues confronting our people, and provide an inspiring sense of hope through the efforts of dedicated grass roots leaders. Our tours are authentic, meaningful, non-invasive, respectful and very importantly beneficial to the communities being visited. The cost of our tours incorporate contributions to the projects that we visit and can thus also be considered philanthropic in nature.

I joined the Uthando tour on 2 December and it proved to be one of the highlights of my trip to Cape Town. While central Cape Town is a bubble of wealth and comfort, it was the trip to the townships with Uthando that opened our eyes to the real Cape Town. The disparity of lifestyle and housing between the... More

It was one of my highlights of our trip to South Africa. We visited 4 different programs related to helping women to learn a craft, a preschool, a community garden and a program dedicated to senior citizens. Xolani was a wonderful guide and gave us great context about the townships and specific neighborhoods we visited. This was a very personal... More

When planning our trip to Cape Town, I had no interest in doing a township tour, it just didn't feel right to me. So when Uthando first popped up on my radar, I wasn't very interested, but then I began reading about it. I visited their website, I watched the videos, and I became inspired, as did my three children.... More

We had an amazing tour trough the townships where we visited multiple start-ups such as the Spinach King, there we had the opportunity to taste some spinach dishes and hear about his meet up with Richard Branson, after that we went to visit a local school where the kids grow spinach for the Spinach King and we played some soccer... We had a tour from James. Great Guy. He showed us a lot of things. The townships, a bicycle tour around the city. We also visited Some entrepreneurs, with great ideas. Which was really inspiring. A great experience if i had to summarize and highly recommendable!

I really enjoyed the Uthando Tour. Our guide, James was really friendly. He is the best tour guide you can imagine! The different places we visited are really interesting. Along the way James told us so much about the people, the hobbits, traditions etc. So I learned a lot. He takes you to places where you would never go to... More

This tour is a safe, secure visit of what was once known as Township 2 outside of Cape Town, South Africa. Our tour guide was born and raised in this township and gave us his insight of growing up there. We stopped at several locations, among which was a Woman's Center, a Day Care Program and a Senior Citizen Center.... More

We visited 4 community projects and had the opportunity to interact with many individual throughout the half day tour. It's unbelievable the resilience that we found in every single one, despite all challenges that they have. It's not a tour, it is a life changing and touching experience that will transform you in some many ways! It was a honor... More

In October I had the privilege of joining the Uthando tour on a guided visit to community upliftment projects around the Cape environs, and can heartily endorse comments made by Sean M and Alison P et all. It is truly a wonderful experience - something to be enjoyed by South Africans as well as overseas visitors. The Outreach project by... More
