The Sudwala Caves is the oldest known caves in the world and lie in the Drakensberg escarpment.Regular guided tours take you 600 meters in and 150 meters underground. Tours leave every 10 min (approx) and take about 30 minutes. The caves have some amazing formations including stalactites, stalagmites, flow stones and pre cambrian fossils. The most famous formation is the Screaming Monster. This is actually a stalactite that has joined with a stalagmite and has formed a column that is 200 million years old.

Lovely, interesting and well looked after. Wear comfortable shoes because there are lots of stairs (very safe) and a lot of walking. Very clean restroom.

Most people visit this part of Mpumalanga Province for the spectacular views (when the weather cooperates). Sudwala Caves is literally at the opposite end of the spectrum - a fascinating set of caves. It's not as large or as fancy as the Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn, but definitely worth the tour. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Be sure to heed... More

My first time in a cave and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. It will take some time before I agree to do their Crystal Tour. Our guide (Ghandi, yes thats his name) was very knowledgeable ,easy going and quite friendly. He was able to answer our questions and give us a lovely experience. There... More

We enjoyed the tour. Found the lighting to be very poor. Caves can be damp/wet places with uneven flooring. Without adequate lighting it is easy to trip or step in water or mud.

We had a great experience visiting the cave. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Be sure to wear easy comfortable shoes with some grip as there are some dark slippery places.

It rained the night before so the caves were wet and cold. still good tour, make sure you have good walking shoes as the floors are slippery in places. Afterwards we took the kids to the dinosaur park next door. Good fun. The restaurant is good for snacks/lunches and has a fantastic view .

In this area, one has the choice to book in the local Sudwala Hotel with nice restaurants on-sight. There's a nice trails to experience as you go up the mountain to the caves. The entrance few is affordable as compared to what you have to experience inside the caves. It is a nice outing for family reunion, teambuilding and couples.... More

Went on an expedition to Sudwala caves whilst in vacation with my parents and children in Mpumalanga. What an amazing experience. My mom is claustrophobic, but believe you me, she enjoyed the excursion and. We are not far from Sterkfontein caves and she always stay behind whilst sightseeing the caves , but this time she enjoyed sooooooo much.
