Welcome to an Eden hidden in the West Rand of Gauteng where beautiful nature welcomes visitors and the rushing water of the Witpoortjie Waterfall, gushing from a height of 70 metres, soothes and revitalises careworn city-dwellers. The garden is home to a pair of breeding Verreaux's Eagles (Black Eagles) which have become proud symbols of this majestic garden. There is a guide to use for all the ways and just... More

Try it. A nearby gem.. do the mountain walk. Take a hat and sun-cream in summer. Enjoyed the waterfall and climb.

We ended up spending Freedom Day at the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens. We enjoyed a relaxing picnic on the lawns and truly enjoyed the day out. The Gardens offer a peaceful sanctuary to the busy city life of Johannesburg and I can truly suggest it to any visitor (local or international).

A lovely treat to be able to walk around these gardens and see the waterfall. Wish we had been better prepared and taken a picnic with us. Lots of people picnicking and having fun with their families. Some amazing trees, plants and art work.

The impressive gardens with waterfall are named in honour of the late ANC stalwart Mr Walter Sisulu who, together with former president Nelson Mandela, led the struggle for a democratic South Africa.

Perfect spot for a family picnic Whether it before for Christmas or New Years Area is nice and big. Downside is that you're not allowed to play sport (we learnt the hard way lol) Beautiful waterfall followed by a scenic hike up the mountains. Great place for beautiful pictures.

This is such a special spot for nature - and the black eagles are the added bonus. Good for a walk or a picnic or if you're lucky enough to catch a concert in the garden. Wouldn't recommend the local café, service is good, food a bit average.
