A fun filled guided tour through an interactive multi-media museum, exploring the rich history of beer and its South African story. End off with a cold pint in the Tap Room overlooking the city.

The immersive tour explores the rich history of Africa's beer culture, transporting you from the tombs of Egypt to the mining townships of Johannesburg's pioneer days. You'll also get to taste traditional African beer, hold hop flowers in your hands, smell the different types of barley and peer into the great big wort kettle!

Beer memorabilia and merchandise are also available at the adjoining shop, Tankards and Togs.

Since being opened by former President Nelson Mandela nearly 20 years ago, the World of Beer has become one of the country's top attractions for foreigners and locals alike, winning SA Tourism's "Tourist Attraction Category Winner" for three consecutive years.

It also houses a five-star conference and event venue.

It is a nice type of visit. You learn a bit about the history of the beer and get to taste some beer. A bit costy but as a tourist I think it worth.

Along the way, you can taste the hopsand barley in it's unprocessed form (It's bitter). When you are done, you get to go to the cafe, and use your voucjers for free beer. Your soviner... More

This is not a conventional brewery tour, nevertheless an innovative, unusual approach to beer history around the world. An enjoyable visit.

After a hard morning rush in the office, we visited SAB and enjoyed the 'pub lunch' vibe and beers. A very interesting place to visit and relaxing atmosphere.

first time it was ok, but by the third time you bore yourself thru it. only reason i keep going is to take out of JHB friends or foreigners since they feel its to dangerous to go alone.

Needing a break from the tour and some food but not having enough time to do the beer tour we thought we'd grab a quick pub lunch. The beer was served quickly and cold and was good. However they were clearly suffering from New year blues with one poor waiter run off his feet while being supervised by the manager... More

We opted for the beer tasting option after a visit to another nearby attraction. We were glad we had hired a minibus and driver for both visits as it eliminated the need for us having to find parking. We booked ahead for the 16:15 tasting and arrived early. The free vouchers kept us entertained until the allotted time for the... More

Dear romyp2017 Many thanks for posting your review on TripAdvisor. It is, indeed, sad that so many Gauteng Residents have never ventured into the Newtown precinct to visit the Cultural attractions and restaurants available. I am pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and hope to see you again soon. Regards Tony More
