Due to it's location in the centre of Johannesburg (not very safe, crowded and dirty) it is really unpleasant to visit the gallery. The building lacks upkeep and this is visible everywhere. Pity as there are plenty of interesting works to be seen.

Apparently this museum owns many important works of art, but you are unlikely to see them on display. Situated in what has become a dodgy centre-city neighbourhood, the place now seems virtually abandoned with much of the space unused. Not a must see.
