The market is a wonderful maze of little corridors with arts and crafts from all over Africa. The stallholders were all friendly and open about where the different items were made. There is the usual mix of small low cost items combined with lots of wonderful soapstone and other stone carvings, amazing ostrich eggs painted with beautiful pictures and other... More

Been here with a friend from UK over Dec and found a lot of the items totally overpriced in ZAR value terms. The very same products are found all over SA at half the price or even less at other markets. The location seems to capitalize on tourists only, locals do not shop here. Some of the traders were rude and very pushy.

Lots of individual stalls all with similar, hand-made goods. Bargaining is expected, but hard to do in the cramped environment. Travel anywhere in southern Africa and you'll see all the same items, perhaps cheaper.

Went here a number of times. Found local crafts at mildly inflated prices...so couldnt complain! Outside the market is a beautiful pond or lake we sat by and ate some of the great food available here as well.

This was fine to visit but more of a collection of stalls in a shopping mall environment. There was certainly plenty of choice on a wide range of African goods but I suspect most were mass produced. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit it but worth dropping into if you are at Rosebank anyway

The real action is downstairs. All manner of African art, curios and souvenirs can be found there. Suremany of the 100 or so stalls carry non South African gear but it is styled aan "African Market". We were able to load up with an eclectic lot of souvenirs before heading to the airport.

Here you can find loads of Africal craft items - commercialised quite a lot (expected) - BUT you must bargain and you can find some nice items - try to sound like local and not like a tourist - will not stop bothering you!!

A great choice of artefacts from the whole continent. Great to browse to find special pieces or small gifts! Bargaining is mandatory!

We visited this to get my watch fixed! There is a recommended watch repairer just as you go in down the stairs on the right Ahmed,. A genuine repairer who knows his stuff and good value. Meanwhile, my wife purchased a fantastic hand made blouse from the shop on the right as you go in. Unique and beautiful.

My husband and I made the mistake of just "browsing" this market since it was at the beginning of our three week journey through South Africa. Well, I can honestly say this was the best market we found and better prices than in other big cities such as Cape Town (we were not impressed with the Green Market in Cape... More
