I've used the gautrain many time, both to the airport and to Hatfield from Sandton and its always been reliable and easy. its a safer version that driving and cheaper too! its also very safe with lots of security guards around always.
I only did one trip on the Gautrain- from Sandton to the airport. It proved to be a convenient way for us to return to the East Rand where we were staying. It wasn't cheap, but it was cheaper than a taxi would have been....More
I got the chance to travel from OR Tambo airport to Sandton City station. Ig you travel by bus/car, it would take approximately 45 minutes. However, this train is fast... and only took 12 minutes from airport to Sandton. Other routes are also available but...More

Gautrain compares well to the best rail services around the world for comfort and punctuality. It forms an excellent link between main centra in Gauteng and connects seamlessly to Johannesburg (OR Tambo) airport.

There are off peak, peak and high peak fares however to the airport (yellow line)it’s peak fares and it cost around R160 or A$16 one way. Depends on exchange rate. Easy to find train station at airport. You will have to purchase a card which you can reload. This is a few additional dollars. Time it takes is approx 15mins. We caught a taxi @ 2 people from airport at one stage due to train strike and it cost $A45 and lucky we didn’t have traffic. It took about 35mins. Apparently traffic can be an issue?
