Ocean safaris whale and dolphin watching We are legally permitted to conduct close encounter experiences !!!! Exploring the bay for over 10 years, Ocean Safaris, a family run business, lets the wildlife and weather shape your journey, giving you a unique opportunity to see some of the ocean’s largest and most mysterious inhabitants in their natural environment. We are fair trade and green ticket accredited. What do I bring along? Yourself, your family and your friends. There is no particular dress, we suggest you wear comfortable clothing and shoes and bring along a jacket. Sun screen, hat and sunglasses are also good items to pack. Camera’s and other gadgets are allowed on board at your own risk. What will I be doing? Exploring the coastline and rich waters in and around our bay, searching for whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, seabirds and more. Come on a voyage of discovery as you search for Plettenberg Bays majestic creatures of the deep. What will I see? Our climate is changing and these changes seem to be affecting our marine life, in particular the Southern Rights. Over the past two years, sightings of Southern Right whales have dropped, but we see more Brydes and Humpbacks than before. Our dolphin sightings are awesome and include the playful Bottlenose, energetic Commons and the highly endangered Humpbacked dolphins. A variety of sea birds are sighted as well as the ever growing Cape Fur seal population. We see many different animals that come into our bay to say hello. Particular species cannot be guaranteed as these animals are being viewed in their natural environment but times of year can depict their occurrence. This is a true “seafari” and every one is different, you never know what you will find …. How will I know what to look for? Highly qualified and experienced marine guides aboard will guide you through the different species you are likely to encounter, showing you how to identify them and where to look. They will be on hand to answer any questions you might have, talk about the history, geology and wildlife during your adventure! What about the boats? Ocean Safaris boats are inspected regularly by the South Africa Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA). With over 10 years of experience operating marine tours in the area ensures we have the right vessel and equipment to help guarantee your safety on every tour. Where is ocean safaris? Milkwood Centre, Hopwood Street, Central Beach , Plettenberg bay GPS: 23° 23.344' E 34° 03.354' S Due to limited numbers, all trips require prior booking. Don’t miss your place! Please note all cruises are weather dependent and at skipper’s discretion an alternative vessel may be used at times

These cruises get you as close as legally possible to unforgettable encounters with whales, dolphins and seals at work and play.

We booked a trip with Ocean Safaris in Plettenberg for a Thursday. The instructions said to arrive at 9am for the 9.30am trip. We arrived just after 9 to be told that the trip was cancelled due to the weather and that they had emailed me (5 mins beforehand). We were disappointed but understood because of the weather. So we... More

We chose Ocean Safari in Plettenberg Bay over doing a whale watching tour in Hermanus because it was the end of the season and we heard that even if you don't see whales in Plett, there is still the possibility of a lot of other sea life. Sure enough, we saw playful Cape Fur Seals in and out of the... More

We had a very good trip with Ocean Safari's last week. We went on their Whale watching trip as our one in Hermanus was cancelled due to bad sea conditions. The trip was real fun being pushed into the water by a tractor to launch and once away we say dolphins some Humpbacked Whales and plenty of seals. Well worth... More

Whale watching is weather dependant. One day before we phoned Marlon and booked for the 12:00h trip. He told us we would get a call in case it wouldn't go. Next day we arrived at 11:30 am (came from Knysna, 30min driving by car) and the staff member at the office told us the 9:30am boat was the only one... More

informative and fun crew. Saw whales, seals and even an elephant seal. There's probably better places to go whale watching (or we might have been off-season), but if you're in Plettenberg then this is the way to go. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

For the price we paid we were a bit skeptical but we returned An experience that we would live with all our lives and all the credit goes to the team of Ocean Safaris. Humpback Whales and a megapod of (almost 5000) Dolphins swimming (as informed by Ashwyynn & Marlon) with us made-up for the wait as we missed the... More

As it was a great time to spot whales on their migration we had to go out and see. The sea is quite rough, so if you do get seasick this isn't for you, but for me I loved it! I'm not sure what I expected, seeing nature programmes on TV you get some great views, we did see whales... More

We did the garden route in July 2016 and drove from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. After hearing that this is one of the best places in not just Africa but the world (!) to see whales, we decided not to miss it. Booked with Ocean Safaris easily through the internet. They did not take payment until we were physically... More

We select ocean safari for a cruise to see whales. We were not disappointed. We saw a lot: back, tails from every part of the boat. One of them just went below the boat. Staff is experienced and very friendly. Funny experience also but I prefer to let you discover by yourself
