Once we heard about this, we headed for town to buy some postcards and stamps. I very nearly walked out of the postoffice as it took over 20 mins to get served but I persevered. We posted our cards on our way out of Grahamstown.

Bit of history in a street in Grahamstown, link with other museums and historical places when you visit Grahamstown.

This is a very rare antique post box well maintained and definitely worth a visit. With new technology taking over the written word and the physical posting of the letter. This one is actually still in use

Sadly, time is running out for the continued use of this letterbox, as the postal service has all but ground to a halt. I am sure that this letterbox has been well used over the years, its elegant fluted cylindrical shape disguising an almost indestructable design. The typical British letterbox has withstood all manner of assault - IRA bombs failed... More

No info or anything to tell you what it's about. It's prominent and very red so I went to have a look while out on a stroll but had no idea what the significance is.

Yeah, rock it oldstyle (really oldstyle) and mail a letter through the oldest letterbox in SA. Its pretty obscure, no sign saying "ye oldee letter box here" or anything. Still, your letter gets a special franking (apparently), too cool :)

Don't stop the car, it's just a letterbox, nothing more. And to list it as an "attraction" is just a joke! Come on folks, get real!

nothing more to it :) Down the road is an old brick making factory, now commonly know as Tunnels, which hosts most of the epic Trance parties of the Eastern Cape. 37onNew is the next best bet.

It’s impressively sturdy and worth a look if in the neighbourhood. But it’s only a postbox. No pub, scenic view, etc. I give it a high rating because it’s old and attractive.

When visiting Grahamstown around the 9th March I bought a postcard to send to myself, and found the location on the map, so although a hot day I went off to mail it. Like many people I had read in the Grahamstown visitor's guide that mail receives a special frank when mailed from this box, and this was my main... More
