We saw that a bunch of buildings were on the historic registry in Florence and drove out to see it without making a plan. I think we were too early as the doors weren't open but the outside was extremely lovely.

Amazing what can be gone in 20 years starting from scratch in the Sonoran desert and building four churches, store, dormitories for the monks, gardens, orchards and many other features! Just totally amazing dedication and beauty. Some 47 monks inhabit the monastery and have a thorough day and night praying, work and rest. Originally from Mt Athos in Greece. Self... More

Beautiful grounds with authentic architecture. We went in January and the weather was perfect, in the 70s. Amid the lush trees and shrubs and lovely buildings, chapels and fountains, the peacefulness is palpable. I felt as if I shouldn't talk much while there, just enjoy the ambiance. Take care to get the dress code right... long shirts, shirts with long... More

It was a very enjoyable experience. Aside from the friendliness of the people in the monastery, the scenery was breathtaking. One of the monks was so friendly that he engaged with us in a conversation and answered every question we had. At the end he picked two lemons from the tree and handed them to us. He said the lemons... More

We recently went to St Anthony’s monastery as a result of an article I read which stated that, in addition to being a monastery, they made and sold olive oil. It about 1 ½ hours southeast of Phoenix. The grounds and flowers were quite striking, the buildings were impressive and the whole complex was serene. Unfortunately, only one of the... More

Very interesting place. We are touring America one small town at a time. There pastries were old and I would not recommend them, but the sweet bread was good

A rare and beautiful oasis in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, this monastery boasts a half dozen different and beautiful chapels, displaying gorgeous architectural detail and design, as well as ornate and exquisite artifacts on the interiors. The ground are a well manicured and diverse garden of paved bordered walkways, fountains, and arches. Stunning place, where I took 200+... More

Stopped by on the recommendation of several friends and was stunned by the beauty of this hidden oasis in the middle of the Arizona desert. The grounds and buildings are lovingly cared for and the setting transforms you into a different world. I doubt one could find a more serene setting. The vegetation is so varied you will forget you... More

I stop at the Monastery when ever I am driving from Florence AZ to Tucson which may be once a month. I cannot say enough about the whole experience of interacting with the unobstrusive desert Brothers at St. Anthony's. I must also say that I have been appalled to see boorish, burger joint type tourists, both male and female, show... More
