It give a good view on how the salmon run works. It is impressive to see all the salmon coming from the ocean. The salmon ladder shows very good how the salmon work their way up. They show on TV-screens the working of the hatchery.

This was the best Free entertainment we saw on our 57 day driving trip to Alaska! There were so many fish trying to return up the river you could almost walk across the water on their backs. We also saw 5 Big Stellar Sea Lions...More

We saw this hatchery in mid-August, which is prime time for viewing the salmon. We weren’t disappointed, though no other wildlife such as bears showed up during our visit. The spot is known to have bears visit for the salmon food.

We went when the salmon were coming home to spawn. Absolutely a must see. Even had a few black bears near by having a feast. Sea lions were swimming around. Very cool

The pink salmon were running when we visited. So interesting to learn about their life cycle. Visited at both low tide and high tide. Did not see any bears but did see sea lions at high tide way out in the water enjoying a salmon...More

We visited on a Sunday so egg harvesting was not in progress, which is what I wanted to see. There were thousands of salmon attempting to proceed upstream at a barrier designed to divert them into the hatchery via a fish ladder. Sea Lions came...More

This was disappointing. There were no personnel around. No one to ask any questions. No fish in the hatchery to be seen. By the parking lot we did see harbor seals, sea lions, and sea otters feasting on salmon. Across the road are the beautiful...More

If your visiting Alaska and want to understand and see first hand the life cycle of the salmon, this is a must see. We live in Alaska and still enjoy visiting Solomon Gulch Hatchery

Well, we saw them end of July, so my guess is all the fish will be dead and gone by then. The bears may be in the area, but probably not at the hatchery. Maybe you can e-mail the hatchery directly.
