My wife and I enjoyed our morning visit to the museum during our two night stay at the Mountain Sky Hotel, Valdez as part of our escorted ‘Natural Wonders of Alaska’ tour with Titan Travel. This museum and archive occupies two sites in Valdez - the Valdez Museum on Egan and the Valdez Museum on Hazelet. We only had time... More

There is an extensive collection of items arranged in settings: a cabin, a bar, a post office, etc. The three big items in the history of Valdez are the Gold Rush (and the trek over Valdez Glacier), the 1964 earthquake that pretty much wiped out old town Valdez (they moved the town to a safer place), and the Exon oil... This museum is really done well. They have an extensive collection of items from the history of the city. I especially enjoyed the coverage of the earthquake and the Exxon Valdez oil spill.

This museum provided a great deal of information about the history of the area and factors influencing its formation. The person working at the museum was knowledgeable and eager to help answer questions.

This exhibit really brings it all together to explain the destruction an recovery from the earthquake. It also has good displays of the community's history and informative information on the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Second museum location also is worth a visit.

This Museum takes you through the good and bad times of Valdez, Alaska since the tsunami over twenty years a go & the oil spill of the EXXON VALDEZ. The big story was the finding of Gold.

My husband and I were in Valdez for just a day. It never stopped pouring rain, so we decided to visit the Valdez Museum. What a wonderful and informative museum to visit. There was a lot of information regarding the earthquake of 1964. It was very informative to listen to people's accounts of where they were when the earthquake occurred... More
