We spent an hour or two at the mine. The history has been preserved and there is a lot of information to take in. It is interesting and a good stop by if you have time.

History surrounded by incredible views and tranquility. It doesn't get better than this. Spend a day exploring the old buildings and exhibits to get a feel of the history with original artifacts dispersed throughout the park, followed by some hiking to discover the surrounding area....More

Great hike, terrific views, and Alaska culture. If you want to observe the culture of Alaska take a walk, perhaps a hike, in the independence Mine State Historical Park. Even though this is Alaska remain hydrated and carry water.

Roughly 25-30 miles. Good paved roads all the way. Beautiful views along the way. If needed, when you get to parking area, follow signs to handicapped unloading area. Eliminates a little uphill walking.
