This museum tracks the history of this building and of mostly one family at the center of the development of the 19-20c Kodiak economy. There are lots of physical artifacts but the museum has also collected oral histories from older residents. A great way to...More

I agree with earlier comments that I was hoping to see more info on the Russian influence in Kodiak and Alaska, but its mainly focused on one family that lived there in the 20th century. Nicely put together though, but I wouldn't recommend it.

We enjoyed popping in to this small museum and the village that it is located in. Kodak is a special place that is like a very northern Hawaii.

Was expecting to see more of the Russian influence showcased in this museum. More focus was on the families that lived here after the Russians left. Very disappointed and it is very small.

There was a $5 charge to go through the building and maybe a 12 ft place to buy souvenirs to return home with. We felt this was not a friendly environment

The museum is in a historic house in downtown. It gives a good overview of the histrory of Russian influence in Kodiak, how the native people were affected by it, and how the Orthodox church still holds a lot of sway in the area. It...More
