The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center is the gateway to the Tongass National Forest. Located just one block from the cruise ship docks in downtown Ketchikan, you can explore the amazing ecology of the coastal rainforest, connect with the rich cultures of the region's native peoples, enjoy Junior Ranger activities with your kids and experience Alaska's rainforest from the comfort of our theatre through an 18-minute, high-definition film.

This site's information added so much to our understanding of how the area was developed and the region's characteristics. The film on Ketchikan, with its old footage, pictures and interviews with local people, added so much perspective to our subsequent experience. Great start!

This is a nice place to look around and find out a little more about Alaska. They even gave my 8 year old a scavenger hunt sheet to fill out. There are some interactive displays too.

Very nice little Museum, educational for the little ones, they even have a little scavenger hunt for kids, lets them check off items that they find throughout the museum. Helps to keep them engaged. Great for adults as well, our family really enjoyed it.

The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center is operated by the US Forest Service as it is about the Tongass National Forest. It is so well organized and presented that it outdoes many better-funded National Park Visitor Centers. The building has a soaring central hall more than...More
