We offer Half Day and Overnight Bear and Wildlife Viewing Trips out to Katmai National Park from May through September. We have been guiding trips to Katmai for 26 years, and we have a perfect safety record with our experience with the bears. Hallo Bay Bear Camp is a fully sustainable wilderness camp designed to be a trend setting model of responsibility and low impact to this environment. Our guests observe the bears in their natural habitat where there are no viewing platforms or man-made trails. We limit our groups in size because it is our experience that small groups are much less impacting than large groups of people on any wilderness outing. The smaller group size intimidates wildlife less and leaves a much less impacting footprint on the habitat.

I purchased a ticket to Hallo Bay at Katmai NP. It was to be the highlight of my Alaska vacation. My ticket (invoice) was for August 10, 2016, said flight to Hallo Bay but they took me to Lake Clark and there were no bears!

We were really lucky and had one week of T-shirt wheater in September! We saw a lot of bears, 11 in the same spot, on some days. Lance and Hannah were great guides and fun! I recommend the overnight trips for a couple of days. Even though it is expensive, it is worth it!

This is my husband's and my fourth visit to Hallo Bay albeit the first time in the "rustic" campsite. Even though we both are not campers we decided to give it a try and are so glad we did. The guides, Lance and Hannah were not only incredible at guiding but such fun, energetic people to be around. They did... More

Wonderful experience viewing bears, wolves, and eagles, not to mention the Alaskan wilderness at it's most beautiful. Mother bear with her three cubs swimming across bay to the beach in front of us was extraordinary! Encounters with the wolves were not anticipated beforehand but were also special!. Great photographs! Guides Lance and Jerry were first-rate. Very professional and accomodating in... More

It was the highlight of our amazing Alaska trip! We saw this young female bear and followed her as she searched for salmon, which had just started going upriver 2 days earlier. She was so focused on fishing that she moved within 30 yards of our group, but never even looked at us. It was spectacular! And our guide Jerry... More

Buyers beware!~~ I have been on 6 bear viewing/photographing trips in Alaska and have NEVER been disappointed until now. We never got closer than 1/4 mile from a bear with NO photo ops!! The guide says the bears weren't where they were supposed to be... really... that is your job!! When we did spot bears she said we couldn't get... More

I have been fortunate to visit Alaska many times to view and photograph bears. Each trip has been different, but well worth the time and money. Unfortunately, Hallo Bay is the exception to my bear-viewing experiences. We had one good day of bear viewing--the weather was extremely warm and there was a scarcity of bears during my stay. Anyone who... More

Readers of reviews of the Hallo Bay Camp should only pay attention to reviews of the 2015 season. The owners of the lodge no longer control the property that the lodge operated from. There is no permanent lodge. Tom G's review is right on the money. I differ from his review in that management never let me and several other... More
