Delightful way of spending a couple of hours

We were perhaps a little early in the season - so no bears, but eagles, swans, the sound of the river, and great views. Great weather made a difference.

This was phenomenal. Tom Lang met us at the dock in Haines with his warmth and inviting personality which was just the prelude to an awesome tour. We saw bald eagles and mountain goats. View were inspiring and staff was wonderful. This is a must do your!!!

I live in Haines Alaska and the Eagle Preserve is about 20 miles outside of town along the Chilkat river. The ride is beautiful anytime of the year and wildlife can be seen everywhere. From trumpeter swans to brown bears, black bears, moose and of course Eagles, there's always something to see. You can fish for salmon and trout in... More

We arrived via a jet boat to the Bald Eagle preserve on the Chilkat River in Haines. Tons, and tons of eagles. It's amazing. If you ever see any discovery or history channel specials on eagles in winter, it’s shot in this area. The river does not freeze due to a special interaction with the rocks.

We arrived in the middle of February when things are pretty slow in Haines but as soon as we walked in we were greeted warmly and given a brief tour. They have great displays if all of the animals native to alaska from bears and moose to salmon sharks and wolves. It has a nice history of the area and... More

My wife and I came to photograph this year's (2016) gathering of bald eagles over Thanksgiving. We were a little spoiled by previous experience photographing eagles in Homer (where they were being fed a few feet away), so had to adjust our expectations a bit. Lots of eagles, but they were typically 100 feet or more away. Not a problem... More

We came to see the eagles and to see the rehabbed eagles released. There were lots of eagles this year and we really enjoyed seeing them.

The preserve is basically a large conservation area along the river by the Haines Highway. The eagles congregate here by the thousands in fall an early winter (perhaps longer). We had poor weather throughout our visit but still got to see 100s of eagles. Photos were somewhat limited by the poor lighting and rain and the distance to the eagles,... More
