Just completed. Expect broken windshields due to gravel spread on ice and snow areas. Lots of commercial traffic, particularly logging trucks. Road surfaces are improved from last trip 18 months ago. Fuel availability was not an issue. Visibility and changing weather along with speed faster than conditions warrant are the real safety issues. Other than those challenges it is a... More

We drove a RV from NY to Alaska and took three months. This road is an awesome, beautiful experience but be prepared to be nervous at times. We saw snowmen in August! We saw lightning and hail at the same time. Many people have flats and blow-outs but we were fortunate to have Michelin tires. I can now say that... More

FYI - if you come to Delta Junction after Labor Day, you won't see much as most is closed... but you can still stop and get a picture of the "end of the AlCan" sign. There are some neat little sculptures of mosquitos and a few funny signs. Definitely stop and take a look. I assume there are interesting things... More

I drive from Vanderbilt BC to Delta Junction Alaska almost year round .I feel every one should carry spare gas because some gas stations close in the winter . A very big must is a spare tire . I see some times 3 to 5 trailers with flat tires . Please slow down the wildlife can come out of nowhere... More

We've discussed for years driving to Alaska. So we did last month. We had heard the roads were bad but "bad" doesn't begin to describe it! In many parts they were the absolute worst roads we have traveled. And we have driven many 4 wheel drive roads inColorado. The Tok Cutoff is some of the worst. It is stone for... More

We took a road trip from SF to Alaska via Yellowstone National Park, Calgary, Edmonton, Alaskan Highway, Anchorage, Fairbanks and returned via cassier Highway to Vancouver. The Alaskan Highway part was marvellous, with lakes, forests, wildlife, snow and vast natural beauty. We saw beer, mountain goat, and other wild animals. After this drive, there is not much need of taking... More

Delta Junction is the official end of the Alaska Hwy, over 1400 miles from Dawson Creek BC. It is a long, hard road on a motorcycle, with many areas either under repair or needing repair. But it was well worth the effort! The scenery is amazing, including lots of wildlife. Plenty of things to do along the way, if you... More

We stopped at the Delta Junction Visitor Center about 9:30am when en route from Fairbanks to Valdez. It's located at the intersection of the Alcan Highway and the Richardson Highway and is open year-round. This facility is basically a rest stop with restrooms, a gift shop, information/brochures, and some exhibits about the construction of the highway and the Alyeska pipeline.... More
