Black Rock beach is historically and culturally important to the people of Rarotonga. Facing north-west, and receiving all day sun, the lagoon area is a popular aqua-playground. The prominent black rocks serve as diving platforms into the rock pools below. Black Rock is also the home of Rarotonga's only golf course, as well as the tennis centre and beach volleyball courts.

Swimming here was beautiful. The water was warm nearby the shore and as the waves came in the cold water comes in also. There is a deep part near the actual rock which is great with a snorkel to look at all the different shells and little fish in the sea.

Nice to look at but on a rough day can be not fun for snorkelling. Not much to see there either. You will need reef shoes as there are heaps of rocks and coral. Best place is between the black rocks where the waves create a surge for kids to play in.

Can be difficult to get to the water due to the rocks and shells, and water was quite rough but it was otherwise a beautiful beach - especially for photos!

Really a beautiful spot. Bring your snorkeling equipment as you will find a lot of smaller but beautiful fish and some corals. Unfortunately a lot of dead corals too. If you are lucky enough you will even find my wedding ring i lost there😜

We found this to be the best place for snorkelling. It was also fine for swimming at low tide when many other beaches are too low to do anything except beach combing. Great sunsets and as the airport is close by you get these amazing photos of jets taking off.

As with all beaches on Raro this beach is better at high tide and offers an alternative to the Muri side (East) in the winds are too high - located near the southern end of the airport on the western end of the southern part of the island - many children and locals use this section of beach to cool... The water by Black Rock was much clearer and the beach was much cleaner than the other side of the island by Muri. Also, a beautiful spot to watch the sunset!

I found this place to have larger fish and the view of black rock was stunning. Saw more sea urchins, and more coral like lettuce leaf and brain coral. Easy to navigate.

We went to Black Rock one an afternoon for a swim and my husband snorkeled. It was a bit windy/wavy the day we went, so it wasn't the greatest day for snorkeling, but it's also not the greatest snorkeling on the island (we liked Fruits of Rarotonga the best). I love taking scenic photos and beachcombing and this is the... More
