This grotto features a lake of black water that creates an optical illusion - the cave appears much smaller than it actually is.

When driving around the island we stopped here. The grottos themselves are set in lush vegetation. A couple of the smaller ones have been fenced off as being potentially dangerous from rock slides, but the big grotto was being used by locals as a cool...More

We took a tour driving around the island and one of the stops was the Maraa Grotto. It is very large and cool which is appreciated in the warm weather with water drops dripping from the ceiling of the cave. It has fish swimming in...More

Another “must see” stopping point on Tahitian tours. This is where Captain Cook found fresh water. It is a very picturesque cave with easy parking just off the main road. Good photography is possible and the waters are crystal clear. Worth a stop, with free...More

We were travelling around the island and this was one of our final stops, we enjoyed the caves and getting some pics. Worth a stop if you are driving around.

Really nice landscape and beautiful grotto, water is very cold but shouldn't be an excuse of not swimming. If you swim, go to the end of it even if it's dark, at the end is a small cave where u can seat.

This was such a nice stop, trails to different gardens, small waterfalls, a hidden grotto. Very cool under the trees and near the mountain waters. Relaxing and peaceful. Roosters walk around and gardens are lush. No fees to walk the gardens. Sufficient parking.

A lovely stop if you are driving around the island - and a great spot for portraits! Parking is relatively minimal, but there's not a lot of traffic on that road.

This site was right on the main road. Pull over and park in the small lot and walk through the site. There are two large grottos (a small, picturesque cave according to the web) to see. It’s a unique geological feature that you don’t get...More

Start looking for this attraction at about PK28 from Papeete as it’s not well signposted and you’ll be on it before you know. Parking is available on both sides of the road although not plentiful. If you need to use the pedestrian crossing, be careful...More

You can't get into the Grotto. You can only see it from the outside. It's a nice thing to stop by, but you shouldn't put it on the top of your list on Tahiti. Better go to the center of the island with 4x4.
