Large number of specimines
Nov 2017 • Business
this is a great place to bring kids and see a lot. If you donñt speak spanish, it might be a little tougher as they don´t haven a lot of their display in other languages, but if you just want to wander and see the animals, this is a great stop.

There are huge numbers of specimines lining the back halls. While the preservation techniques are not top notch, you can at least get to see a wide variety of birds and animals from all around the world.

Creepiest museum ever!
Jan 2018 • Family
Not sure where they got the animal exhibits from- the rejects from people practicing taxidermy perhaps. The animals in the main looked like they had all had really bad plastic surgery. The kangaroo was not like anything we had ever seen, it was that bad. Don't waste your time going there.

A Latin American treasure
Aug 2017 • Family
We went there on a holiday and this allowed us to enjoy it on its fullest. This museum has a vast and very well preserved collection of species and replicas (for what I understand one of the most impressive in Latin America). Is so easy to get there and it's really impressive how much you can see. Fully recommended for tourists and locals!

Unexpected

Came upon this out of the way museum and was impressed. I found the butterfly collection amazing (over 1,200 species represented!). Each section of the museum has some dated taxidermy, jungle birds, sloths, waterfowl etc.

There are several skeletons of dinosaurs as well. Additionally there was an exhibit on minerals, fossils, shells and insects. Although a bit dated, the museum is interesting and worthwhile.

A wonderful little-known museum
Jun 2017 • Couples
We were surprised to find a museum of this type in San Jose. It is not well advertised and probably not visited by many tourists. That's a shame because it offers a wealth of education with numerous rooms offering exhibits of the mammals, marine life, avian life and even dinosaurs inhabiting the region and other parts of the world. It's a wonderful place to bring children and the few that were there on our visit were really excited at what they saw. The entomology display alone encompasses 8400 items! We spent several hours and marveled at all we saw. If you're visiting San Jose, carve out some time to take in what it offers.

La Salle Museum is great

I went there one afternoon and was surprised that there is a museum like this in San Jose. The taxidermy is outstanding and one could spend hours in this place. Nothing is live. There is everything from butterflies to sharks along with rocks dating back to 300 A.D. You will enjoy this place and it is cheap to enter.

Visiting the museum!
Apr 2016 • Couples
Just visited the museum, for teh second time. As a fossil collector, I had offered and they accepted, for me to donate some fossils when I visited San Jose again. Ongoing dental work assures me of regular visits, so I offered to bring some fossils on this current trip. The director was out, and we toured the museum and my wife loved it! I recommend this quaint, dated but interesting museum!

A nice "old-fashioned" museum
Feb 2016 • Couples
We enjoyed spending a couple of hours here. It is not modern and glitzy; few interactive exhibits or electronic gadgets. Just butterflies and animals and dinosaur bones like we loved in our youth. It was quite a large collection in several rooms and we were especially impressed by how many dinosaur bones they have.

There were few signs in English, but we were in San José largely to study Spanish anyway so enjoyed trying to read them.

If you have tastes similar to ours, it's worth the trip, especially if you happen to be near the south-east corner of the La Sabana Park for other reasons. We hope our three-buck entrance fee was enough to keep the place going; sadly, we didn't see many other visitors while we were there.
