While staying in San Jose we visited this small but interesting museum. All of the descriptions are in Spanish with no English translations but well presented. Loved the sculptures in the rear courtyard. Also, dont forget to visit tge upstairs rooms with the wall plaques. It was free when we visited.…

It is constantly changing, and the art is brilliant. I enjoyed the exhibits, and because I can speak Spanish I was able to understand more than some of the other reviewers(there is no English). It includes both modern and more classical art, as well as experiential/audio visual pieces(one is hidden outside the museum in a giant tank and I almost missed it). The price was significantly cheaper than other museums in the city (under $1.50 USD). Located in a historic building, check it out!…

I'm not sure it's the same as this place because of the picture above. Go to the one at the end of Colon Blvd. It's a beautiful building that looks like a mansion-like hacienda from some great movie. The art is excellent and so is the back courtyard.

This museum is not for everyone - the exhibits are a little "too modern" for some, I think. That being said, it was definitely an interesting and unique experience, and I found even the displays of the art and the building itself to be fascinating. One thing that struck me was that the special exhibit did not seem to have the art well protected, and the pieces were starting to curl from the humidity and the way they were being displayed.
