We visited this old market with a guide on a walking tour of central San Jose. It houses a large number of traders offering a huge range of products. We sampled a delicious tortilla and superb ice cream. Definitely worth a visit.

Sensory overload of junky trinkets and fast-talking vendors. Stall after stall of all the same thing. With the "Artesnias" we were expecting / hoping for even just a bit of local-made items, but not! Don't waste your time. The main Mercado is superior experience - mostly food, basic items, etc., but a few gems here and there - good for buying spices, coffee, etc.…
