This isn't a huge museum, but there is a nice variety of items on display. The entrance is a walk through a butterfly garden with beautiful flowers! The location is great - walking distance to Central Avenue shopping, the National Theater, Chinatown and the Plaza....More

There was so much depth and richness covered in this museum...the culture, the natural world, European contact, goldworking, etc...I learned so much! Lots of exhibits and yet not overwhelming.

They had every thing from gold items to butterflies. They had a great collection of pre Columbian artifacts and art to see. Well worth the time to see.

Building itself is a really interesting and going through the butterfly enclosure to get in was good. A small to medium selection of the highlights of Costa Rican history and wildlife. Well worth doing if you are in San Jose.

The exhibit signs are in Spanish and English. The butterfly exhibit was a nice surprise and very pretty. Make sure to take a walk around the exterior of the museum to check out the bullet holes in the walls from their civil war.

As others have said, many of the exhibits have English information as well as Spanish. I don't speak Spanish either but I enjoyed my visit.
