The entry to this museum was free to the public because of construction. Located in downtown San Jose, this museum is situated at the Plaza de la Democracia. This former army barracks contains historical and archaeological displays. Of greater interest to us was the enchanting...More

We entered via the Butterfly Garden, lots of beautiful butterflies flitting around. Excellent displays of Costa Rica's historical development showing some wonderful ancient artefacts, but needed more time than our tour allowed to fully appreciate and digest the information. The morning we visited, the President...More

This museum is located within an old military headquarters! It is varied and interesting, containing art and history and even a butterfly conservatory at the entrance! Highly recommend.

This is a relatively small museum (set in an old fort) with a good collection of Pre Columbian artifacts and a very nice history of Costa Rica leading up to the present. Not much else I was interested in.

Great museum. Best part is the butterfly enclosure at you enter. You could spend a could of hours easily.

I think it's about USD$9... if you pay with USD and need change back, they give the change back in local currency...You can also pay in local currency but the entrance fee is higher for foreigners than locals...
