Awesome grounds, very informative. Only downside construction noise was loud and we weren’t able to observe the butterflies due to painting. Overall good experience. Place to visit if in San Jose, lots of History.

This location was our last stop on the free walking tour and the tour guide really made me want to visit. I was very surprised when I went the next day because the backside of the museum looks nothing like the bright yellow front side,...More

Great museum located in an old fort. Lots of good history and artifacts. Pretty much learned entire history of Costa Rica there. Took a couple hours to go through and cheap to get in, only $9 for foreigners.

Very detailed and interesting, covers precolumbian times to present. Modest price to enter. There is a butterfly garden when you first enter. We were also "entertained" by protestors in the park, unfortunatly their noise carried into the museum.

Lots of art, history and culture. We learned so much during our visit here. There are hours of interesting things to see and read. The butterfly pavilion was a pleasant surprise and a highlight of the visit. I highly recommend spending a day here.

Has many nice exhibits which somehow had alot of art in it which was pretty cool too. The Butterfly Pavilion was the highlight though.

I think it's about USD$9... if you pay with USD and need change back, they give the change back in local currency...You can also pay in local currency but the entrance fee is higher for foreigners than locals...
