The Jade Museum and of precolumbian culture is positioned as an innovative state-of-the-art cultural proposal in the protection and conservation of archaeological heritage in Central America. Located in the center of Costa Rics's capital, the building was especially constructed to house the museum's collection, its architecture evoking a cut jade block. Its five levels exhibit objects crafted by artisans specialized in solving their daily subsistence needs, their spiritual and political world.

I spent about 3 hours here, it is worth the price. Many floors of historical artifacts. It is educational, and informative. Clean, and safe to visit. Downtown San Jose. It is good for adults and your children also. Good event for about 2 to 3 hours.

We stayed at the Don Carlos hotel and this was within walking distance and recommened by the hotel staff. SO glad we went. Amazing artifacts (many in the stone of the land...jade) and just wonderful displays. We also enjoyed the interactive kid areas where we learned a lot! We have so many wonderful photos (no flash) and I am just enthralled... More

This was our first stop on the city tour; some 7,000 plus items displayed in various galleries over five levels, translucent jade carvings depicting fertility goddesses, shamans, frogs and snakes plus exquisite samples of other stone carvings, gold and terracotta vases, bowls and figurines from the Pre-Columbian Culture era. Nice to discover that exhibits are explained in both Spanish and... More

At first I was not impressed. The museum is on 6 floors (with elevators) and the first floor had displays with nothing but electronic kiosks to describe the works. The kiosks were hard to navigate- they "swiped" slowly and I never could get English text, and you had to hunt for the image of what you were seeing in the... More

The museum itself if accessible, bet to the museum from the street is a headache if you or someone who is accompanying you uses a wheelchair. The museum was very underwhelming. I found the jade exhibits are the Museum de Nacional to be much better in quality and history than the items at the jade museum. Since we had gone... More

I visited the museum in April on a weekday morning. They open at around 10:00AM and have a great tourist market shop right next to it. The museum was informative, though a little pricey ($15/pp). Worth a visit. Just don't hang out in the plaza on the side of the museum, I had my iphone stolen right out of my... More

The Jade exhibition only constitutes about 20% of the building, the rest is ceramics, tons of it. Interesting for an hour.

Went here a day after visiting the Pre Colombian Gold Museum, and I was floored to see so much more fantastic Costa Rican art and artifacts. Five stories in a unique building, absolutely amazing. Lots of jade of course and how it was processed and what it was used for. But also lots of pottery and stone carvings housed in... More
