This beach is very quiet, very peaceful and off the beaten path. Away from the busier tourist beaches, such as Playa Espadilla and Biesanz, this beach is great if you want to get away from everything. Great little restaurant close by that serves up the best food I have ever had but the name escapes me at the moment...Great waves... More

This is a nice beach, a bit off the beaten track but accessible. Lots of locals. It was clean and there were families around, but we were asked for money by someone as we were getting into our car, and felt a bit unsafe. Was hoping to see more turtle activity. It's pretty, but there's just not much there. But... More

We were here 5 years ago, when the only hotel was the Riu Guenacaste and the beach outside the hotel was delightful. There were a great number of trees providing shade and the beach was sandy (volcanic ash, turns black when wet) and the abundant wildlife was visible without leaving the sunbeds and we spent our days on this beautiful... Almost no one on the beach so can enjoy long walks. Not a swimming beach. Beautiful sunsets. Some good waves for surfing too. Don't leave valuables. (like anywhere in the world)

This is my favourite Costa Rican beach so far. I have seen a few. Quiet. Remote, but not too remote. Endless sand. Uncrowded. Great sunsets.

We stayed at the Riu palace Guanacaste hotel but spent a lot of time on the beach for its peacefulness and this is a good way to meet the locals. Near the hotel, on the beach, you can get massages, I would highly recommend DEY (DEYRIS) or CAROL, 2 wonderful ladies, who will make you feel great, they are properly... More

An excellent 1 hour (or 2) horseback riding excursion that takes you through the local forests, up the mountain for a scenic overview of the entire area followed by a fun gallop along Matapalo Beach. Our guide, George, was friendly and a plethora of very interesting knowledge and information which included the history of Guanacaste, its people and vegetation. The... More
