This trip was arranged through our cruise ship and was well organised. Very comfortable boat with excellent pilot and guide, who both pointed out so many animals that you would never spot. We saw monkeys, sloths crocodiles etc and a whole row of bats sleeping on a bridge support.

this cruise was billed as a adventure where we would see alot of various animals when it should have stated that this was a bird watching cruise with chance of seeing crocodiles. we did not discover this until we got to the small boats and we were given a flyer with the list of birds we would see. we spent more time on the bus getting to and from the ship than on the actual cruise. we saw a couple of crocs but no other wildlife. we were not given any time to walk around the ground to see the flowers and maybe some reptiles . the description said that there would be a tropical buffet and drinks. the buffet consisted of bananas and pineapple. for the drinks it was orange juice or coffee. i am including a picture of the description. i wish we could have gotten a refund for this one as we wasted a day in Costa Rica doing this when we could have done something more interesting and what we might actually enjoy

We arrived in Puntarenas on Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas and embarked on a bus to what was billed as an eco-cruise on the Guacalillo River. The bus ride was much longer than advertised and much of it took place over very bumpy, dusty roads. The worst part --and the reason I'm writing this review-- is that we had no access to water for almost four hours, even though the tour description included snacks and water. Even when we arrived at the river depot and I saw water on the the tables the locals were using, i was told no water was available. We saw four birds and one iguana on the river. No crocodiles. Afterwards, we stopped at a souvenir shop, where beverages were available The second part of the excursion was touted as a scenic ride on the Pacific Coast Railway. If your idea of "scenic" is riding through a fetid swamp where the water is literally covered in trash and litter, then this qualifies. Depressing! In short, I recommend avoiding this excursion, but if you choose to go, make sure you bring your own water!

We took this Eco Jungle Cruise from the cruise port in Puntarenas. It is a bumpy ride on a dirt road for part of the trip to the Mangroves, but the bus was air conditioned and very comfortable. Once we were in the boat and going through the Mangrove, we saw abundant wildlife. We saw two baby crocodiles, Iguanas, two Scarlet Macaws nesting in the canopy, and many other types of birds. The guide, Irene, was so knowledgeable about the Mangroves and could name every species of bird we saw. The boat stopped several times and backed up so that everyone could see the bird or animal. On the way to the next top we saw white faced monkeys in the trees. I have been in Mangroves before and hadn't seen the crocodiles, and Scarlet Macaws on the previous journey. The guide told us we had gotten to see some special things on this tour and I totally agree. The guide also gave us a lot of information about Costa Rica and made it a memorable visit.
