We had a wonderful day with Pablo English speaking guide he was very professional & knowledgeable. We saw crocodiles, many birds & wildlife with a river cruise, seeing monkeys who were adorable. The views were spectacular of the ocean I still see them in my memories. Totally enjoyable lunch wasn't bad either.

We stayed at the Doubletree Hilton September 2018 and met Carlos on the Pier. He and Roberto provided a fabulous tour. We traveled around Jaco Beach and other locations. We saw four different types of monkeys (white face, squirrel monkey, houlers and a sloth. We fed the white face monkeys. We saw the biggest crocodiles ever. It was the most delightful trip. Four adults in a comfortable van. Carlos spoke English and was very interesting. He was able to share the history and culture as we visited many beautiful locations. I would highly recommend using him for a great, safe, exciting tour of the area.

Please Note: We did not hire a guide but in order to post this review, I had to piggy back off this vendor in order to provide fellow travelers with my first hand experience in Puntarenas. With my apologies and that said, here goes: We arrived in Puntarenas on a cruise ship. We had been to Costa Rica before on the Caribbean side and toured the beautiful rain forest. There are numerous excursions travelers can take from Puntarenas but we wanted to explore the town itself. The pier is right in the middle of the peninsula that is Puntarenas. It is 1.7 miles from the pier to the western end. A walkway called the Avenue de las Touristas extends from the pier to the west end along the beach. There are hotels, casinos, restaurants, street vendors selling souvenirs and others grilling meats on skewers, sand sculptors plying away, parks, statues, playgrounds, etc. along the way. At the west end, there is a water park, lighthouse, piers, the fishing fleet and a ferry operation. Although interesting, not necessarily a tourist attraction standout. The real action is back at the cruise pier. In addition to the beach, there is a market selling all kinds of merchandise and trinkets at very reasonable prices. Some vendors were busily making their crafts on site. The wood carving merchandise was impressive as was the jewelry. One gent was selling coconut water, which in his case was chopping into a coconut and putting a straw into it. He swore it was the greatest medicine in the world. In an adjacent park, children were staging for the Christmas parade planned that afternoon/night. We had a great time but I would recommend taking an excursion in the morning and explore Puntarenas in the afternoon. Puntarenas has tremendous potential but maybe the locals like it just the way it is. They are very kind and gentle people. They are the real highlight.
