Pretty butterflies in a peaceful place in the hills. Anna was very helpful in explaining the life cycles of butterflies and how they look after them. Enjoyed the beers from the butterfly brewery-would really recommend the flight of beers before choosing your favourite. Unfortunately the clandestina restaurant wasn't open on a Sunday or Monday so we couldn't try it but... More

Sarah, our guide was very informative & ready to answer all of our questions. The amount of butterflies that we saw while there was very amazing. Because different butterflies lay their eggs on different types of tree leaves there was quite a selection of trees also. Well worth the couple of hours that we spent in there. Not an expensive... Our guide gave us great explanations of the types of butterflies and the life stages. We were able to see the different stages of the pupa.

In the process of planning a dinner @ Clandestina's in the Mariposario B&B, we had noted the butterfly garden and decided to check it out. For a nominal fee, we were lead by their caretaker onto the "garden". It is basically an enclosed area on the hillside behind the B&B, with netting overhanging. This is a mechanism to contain the... Well worth a trip for a couple of hours. Very reasonable at $6 and they have some beautiful butterflies. The cafe is worth visiting too with some locally brewed beers and good quality food.

The entrance fee is $6 per person but is free if you staying at the hotel. There are quite a few different types of butterflies and the volunteers are informative regarding the lifespan of the butterfly and all different butterfly facts. It is a nice little place, worth a visit.

We (my mom and I) read about the Mariposario B&B on a blog I frequent, refinery29 and decided to stay there for our time in Costa Rica. We stayed a week in the Morpho room and had the best time! Our room had a small balcony overlooking the butterfly garden and it was quiet. The butterfly garden was absolutely overflowing... More

Not much to do in this town so this is definitely worth a trip. The butterfly Sanctuary is darling and interesting. The owners are also attempting a brewery - the Beer is great - def worth a visit.

This B&B is inexpensive and has everything you would need. The breakfast and staff were excellent! I was even able to get a glass of great craft beer(micro-brew) with lunch or dinner. I will definitely stay here again when I visit Costa Rica for the second time.

Went her with my now wife and was always looking for a great place to propose, this was it. Lovely butterflies and caterpillars, flowers and paths. Perfect for a nice time out together and a romantic walk. A lot of uphill travel to get here though, but so worth it

Thank Agust O
