Great park

This is definitely a great park. We saw a few animals and the trails are really great and well maintained. The views are great. I loved it.

I had the pleasure of walking through this wonderful place during a recent trip to Costa Rica. The majesty and beauty of this reserve is amazing! Check out the hummingbird feeders if you want to see a lovely display of hummingbirds - the violet saber wing hummingbird is gorgeous, as were the other hummingbirds there. A friendly coati was at... Seeing a resplendent quetzal is high on the list of hoped-for moments here and having keen-eyed guide is essential. We did get to see parts of one male through thick foliage which was much more than many achieved. Some of the paths are wonderfully made which enable you to look around while walking. Others are rutted tracks and you can... More

We took the 7:30 bus from Santa Elena and got there before 8. We were first to buy tickets, which was good, because afterwards there was a huge line. $20 pp, fairly pricey. A nice young man showed us which trails to take. It was mostly quiet, until we got to the end. The forest is very nice. Unfortunately it... More

We did not book a tour but decided to get there early. So we arrived at 730am. Got prime parking. We bought tickets and asked if we could have a guide. An extra $20/person. We were lucky as the guides were fully booked but we were able to tag onto another group. The park has a number of trails through... More

We headed to the reserve at 3 so that we could do 3 hours of hiking, and then participate in the night walk. We were informed that we would be unable to hike from 4 - 6 as the park is closed during that time. We didn't see anything to that effect on the website... There is little else to... More

If you only have one day in Monteverde, I recommend the cloud forest reserve. It has a hanging bridge, an amazing view of the surrounding area from the very top of the park, and super cool wildlife. The hikes are very manageable but set aside at least 2-3 hours. Well worth the price and no need for a guide.

This park is beautiful. Once the rain stopped, it got a bit busier. We had two hikes booked with a guide so just walked this one on our own. Great suspended bridge that gives you a birds' eye view of the canopy. Be sure to wear closed shoes as it is muddy in places.

We took a morning hike and loved it so much (and wanted to see sloths and other night time creatures) that we returned that night for a night hike. Both hikes were excellent. Our morning guide for the Hanging Bridges was Herbert. He did a great job in terms of information and pacing. The entire hike was great, but the... More
