Sloth Sanctuary WildLife Hike

A short drive from Tamarindo is Portegolpe , Here is one of the very few places you can spot the magnificent two toed sloths in Northwest Costa Rica, province of Guanacaste. This is a wildlife tour , that means all the animals are freely roaming around and we will observe them with respect for nature.

The “Tarantulas Way” nighttime jungle tour was nothing short of amazing. Chris was passionate, knowledgeable, funny, courageous and at at the same time, safety conscious. Felt like we saw a different nocturnal species every 5 meters. Do yourself a favor if your traveling the Caribbean side of Costa Rica (and if you dare, haha) Go on this tour.....What a cool experience!!!!

We had a great tour with Chris who is so knowledgeable and passionate about wildlife. We saw more then we expected and we even got to touch and hold snakes and spiders. Chris is excelent with kids and he made my son feel very special on this fascinating tour through the night. So glad we had this wonderful experience. Thank you Chris!

So glad we did this tour! Christian is a funny man with a passion for his jungle and the creatures within. You will definately see many very large spiders but also so many other interesting things. Christians tour takes place on private property at the very edge of Cahuita park, giving him and edge on other tours. His marked spider holes and familiarty with thd area is great. Highly recommend this extremely knowledgeable guide!

Our family of 8 went on a night hike with Chris. We had a great time and saw and learned so much. About 5 minutes into the hike our 20 year old son said "this guy is legit". Chris' love for snakes and spiders and critters makes his tour so good. We all felt safe and would say that if you want a night hike, don't miss the Tarantulas Way.

I am a professional outdoor educator and naturalist. However, I always hire a local guide because, while I can find a lot of the animals, I have to look and that takes time. A local knows where they are and I can see more. Even with this introduction, the Tarantula Way stood out as the best in CR and one of the best we have ever done. Thirty seconds into the hike, Chris was already showing us things. It never stopped. We saw and touched so many plants, invertebrates and reptiles on this trip. I lost count at over 30 species. I recommend doing this tour first, because Chris can also recommend things to do and things to avoid, which varies seasonally. Some logistical items to consider, while not a strenuous hike in terms of elevation change, you are on very rocky ground, and watching out for venomous snakes. Take more water than you think you will need, because it is cool at night, but very, very humid. Chris is easy to reach through Facebook. This is well worth it, if you are having any concerns at all.
