Tamarindo had plenty of souvenir and surf shops, with a fun, lively atmosphere but on the beach we were approached incessantly by random people trying to sell pottery or jewelry and push services we didn't want. The limited shady spots on the beach were taken over a plethora of local bars/restaurants serving up very mediocre food/drink. Tamarindo is worth a... More

We stayed at the Diria hotel in Tamarindo right on the beach. Tamarindo beach has some of the best surfing in the area for all levels of surfers. Definitely worth the stay

We were a little nervous about bringing our girls to stay here as we had heard that there were large surfing waves. However we have loved it! The water is shallow, clear and the rip tides were not nearly as bad as we had feared.

Simply amazing beach! Beautiful and clean! Sunsets are spectacular! Be careful of a few rock formations out in surf!

The ocean was so warm. It was unbelievably. Restaurants all around so we can watch the sunset or take a break in the shade. Great beach. Only complaint is how many people are trying to see you stuff

Fun beach to visit if you're looking for surfing, food, a little shopping and nightlife. If you are looking for a quieter beach there are plenty, just not this one!

I had heard some negative things about how touristy this city was. I actually thought it was super nice and the beach was one of the prettier ones we saw in Costa Rica.

I stopped there briefly - unfortunately, the tide was already out so the water was far away lol. The beach is clean. You have to tip someone in the parking lot to "watch your car." The wind was pretty brutal - sand was allllllll over us in like 2.5 seconds - we left shortly after we arrived because of that.... More

We spent a few days at this beach and enjoyed ourselves but found it to be overly loud and brash and very crowded. We were told that this was mainly due to Easter weekend crowd. On the main drag you can find virtually anything that you might need or want. The price of this convenience is however expensive. With a... More
