Our family of 6 just had one of our best family vacations. Surf camp has been on the bucket list for some Time and witchs rock did not disappoint. The thing that made this experience over the top was the people!! Handsome Diego took such great care of our family all that from our 15 year old to our 19month old. All of the instructors where so helpful Manruiqe made us feel very comfortable in and out of the water as a dad and having your little girls out surfing that was a big deal. Andrey took great care of our 6 year old son who loved every minute with him. Restaurant staff was always there ready to clean up after our crazy family. We will be back to learn more and continue growing some great friendships. Thank you Joe and Holly for sharing your amazing spot we look forward to seeing you again THANKS TO THE WHOLE GANG FOR A GREAT WEEK!!…

Our family of 4 including 2 teenage girls just finished our second year of surf lessons in Witch's Rock Surf Camp. Witch's team made it an enjoyable experience. We particularly wanted to recognize our instructor Johan Rojas who we have had for both our visits. Johan is a great surf coach that helps us improve in every session identifying the next step and technique for each family member to focus on. Johan is clearly an experienced surfer who is genuinely interested that his students learn and experience the passion for surfing. Johan, is excellent at explaining safety techniques for you and those around you in the water. He is also a great ambassador for Costa Rica and Witches Rock and embodies a Pura Vida surfer style. Our family wholeheartedly recommend Witches Rock for a great beginners surf experience and that Johan will keep you and your family safe in the water while developing a passion for surfing! We are working dates for our next visit and we look forward to having Johan as our instructor! We traveled to Witch's over the pandemic in Dec 2020 and felt safe. Witch's handled it well. Overall there was little impact on our trip other than occasional mask wearing.…

GO TO IGUANA for lesson. Horrible experience! Instructors were not paying attention and numerous times put us in potentially unsafe situations. The were rude and quite obviously did not want to be there. Amazing that they were complaining about the water being cold. Angry with us for not immediately following their instructions. Other shops provide more board choices, sun shirts and more on the beach instruction .…

I chose to get lessons at this place because it has the same owner as Volcano Brewing. I figured that, because we has such amazing service at Volcano, I'd probably get the same at Witch's Rock. And I was correct! There was some initial confusion as to when my lesson would start: I was told that I would be getting a call between 6am and 8 am, depending on the waves and tides. But the person I talked to got the times wrong. When I walked over to find out when the lesson would start that day I met Matheo (sp?) who explained the situation about the waves and tides (and apologized profusely for his co-workers mistake). He told me that the tide will be at its highest at 1pm that day, so I should come back at 11 and he'd be happy to put me in the group for the lesson. And this 47 year old couldn't have had a better instructor. There were 3 of us in our group and he all gave us equal attention and was extremely patient with us all. His instructions were clear and easy to understand, and he was such a great ego boost for all of us. Cheering us on when we made the smallest of victories, telling us calmly what mistakes we were making, and hammering into our heads that we do NOT need to rush this. Take our time, listen to our bodies, get used to our sense of balance. I may not have done all that great, but I had an absolute blast learning and I can absolutely attribute that to Mateo.…

A surf trip is always a gamble, but Tamarindo is like Waikiki, crowded with warm water. We paid for intermediate surf adventures. A "coach" accompanies you to a different break to seek waves that are ridable. Here the coaches are super stoked to surf while getting paid, the "coaching" is waving at you to paddle this way as the fierce wind has blown you down the beach. The experience reminded me of a restaurant with no manager...all the workers are running amok. We found the service at the restaurants severely lacking although the food was good. The only positive was the drinking water doesn't make you sick but I'd trade that for the positive vibes in El Sal and Nicaragua any day.…
