- NickStaffordshire, United Kingdom2 contributionsFantastic day with a fantastic tourOur day was great, picked up from our hotel via a shuttle. When we arrived we met our tour guide who was very polite and got to know us all straight away. We had a group of 5 on our tour so perfect size as not to many to not be able to ask questions etc. The reserve is clean and so well preserved. Everywhere we went we saw people maintaining the paths yet leaving anything outside to it’s natural way. Our guide showed us so much wildlife and explained everything to us in such a great detail. I would highly advise going here and especially make sure you have a guide. We saw a lot of people walking past and missing such amazing views. I am not one for heights yet this was an experience that is worth doing regardless. Nothing made me feel unsure or unsafe. 5*Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 December 2022
- TravelingSoccerLoonSaint Paul, Minnesota3,188 contributionsFun Hike Across Hanging Bridges but Little WildlifeBought tickets in advance for an early morning guided walking tour at Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges. The tour began at 8am and lasted 2 1/2 hours. Although it was not raining, it was quite cloudy. The hike/walk is fun especially crossing the dozen hanging bridges offering views of the surrounding rainforest and distant views of Arenal Volcano. However, although our knowledgeable guide did her best to keep it interesting, there just wasn't much wildlife to see. One monkey at the start of the tour but not much elseVisited March 2022Written 8 January 2023
- Krista88 contributionsIncredible experienceWe all loved this tour with spectacular views of the rainforest. Our guide Juan Carlos was excellent and informative. We learned so much and we did see plenty of animals. Some that we saw included yellow vipers, a strawberry poison dart frog, a bird related to a quetzal and numerous howler monkeys. We also saw and discussed many rainforest plants. Additionally, Arenal cleared completely for our visit so we had incredible views from the highest bridges. This trip was my first in a rainforest and I appreciated how safe and accessible this tour is. Several people on our tour were older and were able to do this tour. I would only say that it was a little nerve-wracking when the bridges would swing with a crowd while crossing. Some people in front of me would shake the hanging bridges while they crossed. Later our tour split up and I didn’t notice that swinging again. I still really enjoyed this. I think they could modernize the plumbing in the bathrooms but generally this was a great tour. Go with a guide and yes, you will see animals. Many rainforest animals are camouflaged or hide or are active at different times of day. Being in the rainforest and still feeling safe was fantastic. We will all remember this tour again and again. I recommend doing this tour and a jungle boat to see lots of different animals.Visited January 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 February 2023
- Christy K11 contributionsSuper fun and educationalThis tour was so fun and educational. We were a family of 6 (ages 12-68) and we had many more adventitious tours booked (rappelling, white water rafting) and although this tour doesn’t provide the adrenaline rush it was still ranked as a favorite among all of us. The tour guide, Walter, was so knowledgeable and is what made the tour so fantastic. He was able to spot many different animals and provided so much education in fun and interesting ways that even both my kids were not wanting to miss a thing he said. We saw monkeys, bats, frogs, snakes, birds and spiders/tarantulas during our walk. The hanging bridges themselves were fun to cross and provided beautiful views of the forest. The walk is easy being that it is all on pavers. I would highly recommend this tour.Visited March 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 March 2023
- Claire N1 contributionPerfect day! This was such a special and amazing experience. We absolutely loved our tour guide Francisco and driver Jaime. Fransisco helped us locate animals and see them clearly through the scope. He captured some amazing photos of the wildlife and of our family on the trip, and was very knowledgeable on the history of the area and cool animal facts. We learned a lot and had an absolutely wonderful time. Thank you so much Francisco and Jaime!Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 May 2023

It was an afternoon tour so less congested than morning trips apparently. My guide was able to indulge me spending 20 minutes just watching the spider monkeys gathering guava . The trails and bridges are attractively laid out and an easy stroll. In addition to the monkeys and with the help of my guide I saw a tiny strawberry poison dart frog , bats and many colourful birds including a slaty tailed trogon, rufous tailed Jacamar and broad billed motmot. Having a guide is a definite bonus as they will spot wildlife that you can easily miss and take photos with your smartphone through their big scopes. The monkeys were the highlight for me.Visited March 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 September 2023
- Sheri M1 contributionThe perfect day!I would think for most people you can think of few days in your life that you would describe as “perfect “ . My friend and I did hanging bridges with the volcano hike through Rainforest explorers with Mario as our guide and a Kendall, a “guide in training”. This was indeed a perfect day and perfect experience. They were so knowledgeable, respectful, enthusiastic and just down to earth, wonderful people. The lunch provided and the farm where we ate was amazing. I cannot say enough good things about this company and our experience. I will never forget it and want to thank Mario from the bottom of my heart for this truly wonderful experience.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 11 November 2023

The staff was very nice and the grounds were very well maintained. The tour was very well signposted and at $80 for a family it's not very expensive either.

We chose to walk through the park on our own without a guide for todays adventure. The guides are great however as they are able to point out animals and plants that one wouldn’t even notice without experience. The staff says the park takes an average of 90 minutes to walk through at a steady pace, we took about 2.5 hours since I kept stopping to search for snakes. I only found one snake, or I should say it found me. Poor little thing somehow fell off the side of the rocks and bumped into my arm before hitting the ground and slithering away. I was caught off guard so by the time I got my phone to take a picture, little guy had gone away and hid somewhere safe.
We saw a couple spider monkeys playing in the trees, a tarantula, plenty of motmots and their babies, a squirrel and a bluish/green bird that I can’t remember what it’s called (hence why a guide is good to have).
The bridges appear to be well built and felt very safe to walk on. Staff throughout the park at different checkpoints to keep an eye on everything. I enjoy heights however there was a time where there was someone on a bridge above us (which happened to be the highway one at the park) and the crying was so loud, I thought it could’ve been an unknown animal haha. The crying stopped once she finished that bridge and stepped onto solid ground, I waited to see there was no emergency, everything was fine.

Amazing, beautiful, loved this place. We went in the afternoon without a guide and it was not at all crowded. The fauna is magical and we saw interesting birds and a coati. The bridges give beautiful views. The person taking out tickets was also so nice. I speak some Spanish and told him I would like to practice but it would be easier in English, and he patiently encouraged my practicing and we did the conversation in Spanish.

We had some extra time between excursions so we went to the hanging bridges. I actually felt like I was at Disney World. Lots of people, 2 long lines waiting to get on two of the bridges (Volcano and Waterfall, 20 minutes and half hour), and not much to see. The bridges themselves were kind of cool, but not much to see from them but plant life. The waterfall at the waterfall bridge was not visible as it was covered with foliage. It took us close to 2 hours to get through but most of that was waiting in lines. Didn't see much wildlife as there were so many people there and noisy. Wouldn't go back.

Alot of walking. Section of it was closed for renovation of bridge so missed the waterfall completely. You should hire a guide because I missed everything including the monkeys which require long lense camera

We plan to do the self guided walk. Can we just show up whenever and pay at the entrance to the bridges? I see on line if you purchase in advance you have to commit to a time slot and they are all in the afternoon. We want to do morning. We also don't want to go with a tour because we will be there for photography and don't want to be rushed, and we would be no matter the pace of the guide.

I am sure you can go self guided as people passed us on our guided tour. We did not feel rushed by the guide and my view is that we saw a lot more as the guide spotted small creatures like bats, spiders praying mantis that we would have missed. We had around 3 hours.

Do you know if there are any benches for those who need to rest before continuing their self-guided walk? My sister in law can walk but needs to sit sometimes and rest. Thank you

We had a guide, and were so happy we did, She saw wildlife we never would have seen on our own, and was so onformative. There is an entrance fee, and there were people doing it on there own. Beautiful walk!
