We arrived at Las Pailas Ranger Station at exactly 8 am and were the second people on the hike. We started about 8:20 am. They give you a number and you check back with them as you leave so they make sure everyone makes it...More

I took the chance of hiking during rainy season in Rincon de la Vieja National Park on the Las Pailas trails. Luckily it didn't rain, but it was certainly humid and i heard grumblings of thunder in the distance. The waterfall was beautiful and the...More

The easy hike here is a 2 hour circular walk through cool jungle and blisteringly hot open areas. There are about 7 stops along the way where you will see hot springs and bubbling mud pots. The stops are pretty underwhelming if you've ever been...More

Spent the morning hiking the trails, which are easy, well marked, and with interesting perspectives on volcanic features. Plenty of wildlife, squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, and lots of birdlife. Full trail may be long for young children and some older individuals, but wellweorth it.

We took a shuttle to the park where you have to pay a national park fee and a park entrance fee. We went through the Las Pailas trails and to the La Cangreja waterfall and total it was an 8 hour hike.

Used Costa Rica Best Tours for our five-hour hike. Was physically demanding, but was a great day! Julio was our guide and without him we would have mised out on a lot of interesting details. Nice scenery. Saw howler and spider monkeys, wild turkeys, iguanas,...More

Hi there! I'm heading to Guanacaste in just over a week (May '17) and have been looking for information on the hot springs in the park. Will we be able to swim in the springs at this time of year at Rincon de la Vieja? Or in the pool by the waterfall? Is a guide required (or recommended) to get to the hot springs? Thanks for your help!

Hello! The hot springs are outside of the national park (about 10 min) and I wasn't there. But the drivers of our transfer told us that you can go there, also in May. Just keep in mind, that normally it starts to rain in the... More

If one goes to the park without a tour group, can they tube only without zip lining, horseback riding, and going in the hot springs?

Hi, in the part of the park where I have been, there are no zip lines...not sure if there are in other areas. You could visit the park alone, if you prefer.
